BLACKSBURG, Va. – No. 4/4 Syracuse posted a season high
in goals and extended its winning streak to four with a 19-5 victory at
Virginia Tech on Saturday, April 9. Sophomore Riley Donahue tied her career high with four goals to help the Orange improve their ACC record to 4-1.
Syracuse
(11-3) used a balanced scoring attack as 12 different players recorded
at least one goal. Donahue led the way with five points (4g, 1a), while
seniors Kayla Treanor and Lisa Rogers and freshman Nicole Levy
tallied two goals apiece. With her performance, Treanor increases her
career goals total to 244, which is just six behind Syracuse's all-time
leader Christina Dove '10. In addition, Treanor now has 359 career
points and trails Alyssa Murray '14 by three points for second place on
Syracuse's career leader list.
The Orange jumped out to an early
lead as Treanor found the back of the net 1:56 into the contest.
Her
goal was the first of five straight for Syracuse. Treanor and Donahue
each scored twice during the run, which was capped by freshman Natalie Wallon.
Meghan Macera netted back-to-back goals for the Hokies (5-10, 0-5) to
cut the lead to 5-2, but the Orange recorded the final four goals of the
half to take a 9-2 lead into the locker room at halftime. Two of the
goals came on free position attempts by Levy, and the final tally of the
half was an own goal for Syracuse.
The second half featured more Orange offense as senior Erica Bodt
found the back of the net off an assist from Levy 44 seconds after
intermission. After the squads traded goals, Syracuse posted eight
unanswered goals as it took its largest lead of the day, 19-3, with 3:20
remaining. Tristan McGinley halted the Orange's scoring run at the 1:56
mark, ending the Hokies' scoring drought of more than 22 minutes, and
Kristine Loscalzo found the back of the net with 19 seconds remaining
for the 19-5 final. The 14-goal difference is the Orange's largest
margin of victory this season.

37-16, and picked up 28 ground balls to 18 for the Hokies. The Orange
also held a slight 13-12 advantage in draw controls. Graduate student Allie Murray started in goal for Syracuse and recorded seven saves. Freshman Bri Stahrr and sophomore Erin Coleman also saw action in goal and recorded one save apiece. Hannah Sieger recorded 10 saves for Virginia Tech.
