Raptors bested by Union in home finale

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Union College men's lacrosse team scored four goals before three minutes had elapsed and cruised to an 18-6 victory over Bard College in a Liberty League game on Saturday afternoon.

The Dutchmen (8-6 overall, 3-3 Liberty League) got goals from four different players in the span of two minutes and 17 seconds to open the game. It was 7-1 after one quarter and 9-2 at halftime.

The Raptors (4-9, 0-5) didn't get any closer in the second half.

Union won 18-of-27 faceoffs, went 17-for-18 on clears and outshot Bard, 50-28. Union got two goals and an assist apiece from John Edmonds (Fairfield, CT), Paul Alberti (Madison, CT) and Thomas Stanton (Hingham, MA). Thirteen Union players scored.

Bard got two goals apiece from John Palermo and Emmet O'Connell. Tom Kelly added a goal and an assist. Will Hughes caused five turnover and collected four ground balls; Troy Ludtka made 11 saves.

It was the final home game for senior Sam Funnell and junior Brad Whitaker. Whitaker will be attending Dartmouth in the fall as part of Bard's 3-2 Engineering program.

The Raptors have two games remaining in the 2016 season. They'll play at Vassar on Wednesday, then at RIT on Saturday.
