MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College
softball team took the field for a double-header against non-conference
opponent Elmira College on Thursday afternoon, dropping the first game
15-1 before falling 4-0 in the second.
The decision puts the Mustangs at 6-20 overall. Elmira moves to 9-11 overall.
In the first game of today's action, Elmira scored three times in the
first and added two more in the second inning to take a 5-0 lead into
the top of the third.
Nicole Chiappetta
(Trumball, Conn.) made a terrific two-run saving, diving catch in the
top of the
third, not before the Eagles had already pushed across seven
runs in the third to extend their lead to 12-0. Julianne Heggie homered,
driving in four runs in the inning.
Morrisville State rebounded from giving up three more runs in the top of the fourth, by adding their only run of the day when Bailey Dillabough (Massena, N.Y.) doubled to right center that drove in Elizabeth Miller (East Greenbush, N.Y.).
Dillabough led the Mustangs in hitting in the game, by going 2-3 and adding an RBI. Paula Conklin (Sparrowbush, N.Y.) went 2-2 in the game, and both Chiappetta and Holly Gamlen (Cazenovia, N.Y.) each went 1-3.

(Gilboa, N.Y.) picked up the loss on the mound for the Mustangs, giving
up ten runs off of eights hits in two innings of work. Katie McDougal
picked up the win on the mound for the Eagles, giving up no runs off of
five hits in four innings of work.
In the second game of today's action, Morrisville State's pitcher Brittany Keator
(Roxbury, N.Y.) and Elmira's pitcher Emily Carlin got into a pitchers
duel in the first four innings, keeping the score even at 0-0 going into
the top of the fifth.
Following a two run double by Elmira's Chelsea Storch to push the
lead to 2-0, Gamlen made a terrific play at shortstop to make the throw
to first to save another run from extending Elmira's lead.
The Eagles would finish off the game by scoring two more runs in the
top of the fourth inning to round out their scoring on the day. The
Mustangs would threaten a comeback in the bottom of the seventh, but
were unable to put a run on the board.
Gamlen led the Mustangs in hitting in game number two on the day, going 2-3. While the trio of Brianna Martin (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Miller, and Amanda Labe (Friedensburgh, Pa.) each contributed with a hit.
Keator picked up the loss on the mound, throwing a complete game and
allowing four runs off of seven hits. Carlin picked up the win on the
mound for the Eagles, giving up no runs off of four hits in five innings
of work.
The Mustangs return to the field on Saturday, April 22, as they
travel to conference opponent Keuka College for a double header. First
pitch is set for 1 p.m. Morrisville State returns to their home field
on Sunday, April 23, as they play a double-header against conference
opponent Penn College. First pitch in that series is set for 12 p.m.
