OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State softball team swept the Potsdam Bears in a two-game series Friday afternoon at Laker Softball Field. In a comeback effort, the Lakers defeated the Bears 3-2 in game won, before downing them again, 3-1, in the second contest. With the win, the Lakers go to 6-6 in the SUNYAC and 12-10 overall. Potsdam falls to 2-6 in the conference and 9-16 on the year.

GAME 1:

The Lakers took almost no time getting on the board in game one, scoring a run in the first inning. Erin Sweeney got on base first for Oswego, walking and then stealing second. She was then sent home as Alexis Nasca hit a ball down the right field line that bypassed the right fielder and veered into foul territory. By the time the outfielder got it in, Nasca was on third and the Lakers had the 1-0 lead.

Potsdam would tack on one in the following inning as the team scored on a questionable illegal pitch
call, but the runs would halt until the top of the sixth. It was here, Potsdam's Alexis Lerman hit a solo shot to give the Bears their first lead.

Ashley Lyman did her best to make sure that lead wouldn't hold though, matching the homer with one of her own in the bottom of the frame. With Nasca on due to an error, Lyman took to the plate as the go-ahead run. She found her pitch and bombed it over the center field fence, scoring too and giving the Lakers the lead once again. That lead would hold through the final inning, giving Oswego the 3-2 victory.

Brittney Sears pitched a complete game for Oswego, allowing only five hits while striking out five.

GAME 2:

Once again, the Lakers were first on the board and once again, due to a Nasca hit. The Hamburg, N.Y. native led off the bottom of the second, and with a 0-2 count, rocketed a shot that cleared the center field fence, giving the Lakers a 1-0 lead.

Nasca continued to drive home runs in the third inning, doubling in two in the middle of the frame. Tori Trovato began the inning with a walk and was moved to second on a sac bunt by Sweeney. Lyman joined her on the bases singling to first and was followed by Jacquie Porreca, who reached first on a fielder's choice (Trovato out at third). Nasca took the reins after that, doubling to center field and scoring the two on base.

Up 3-0, the Bears were able to collect a run of their own in the sixth inning but it wouldn't be enough.

Aside from her hitting, Nasca impressed on the rubber, pitching 5.1 innings and only allowing five hits on four punch outs. She was relieved by Alexandria Connelly, who closed out the final 1.2 innings, recording one strike out and her second save of the year.

Softball will return to action at 12 p.m. on Saturday as the team hosts the Plattsburgh Cardinals. The Lakers will also take time to recognize its four members of the senior class for Senior Day.
