City College of New York Baseball Falls In Non-Conference Tilt

The City College of New York baseball team was defeated in both games against St. Joseph's (Long Island) on Wednesday evening in Patchouge, New York. In the first game, which was nine-innings, City fell 14-8. In the seven-inning game following that, CCNY fell 5-1.

Game One
Michael Siklas and Rob Mandich had a big game as they both brought their bats to life. Siklas would only go one-for-five, but he would bring in four runs. Mandich went three-for-five and brough in two runs.

City got things started right away with a run in the bottom of the first. Anthony Cacchione was walked. After stealing second, Rob Mandich singled to left field to bring Cacchione in for the first run of the game.

The Golden Eagles had a huge third inning as CCNY would change pitchers. Cal Romano started on
the mound for the Beavers and pitched 2.2 innings. In that time he gave up seven runs, three of which were earned. He was replaced by Anthony Sautter, who would pitch the next 4.1 innings. St. Joseph's Long Island scored eight runs to take an 8-1 lead in the top of the third.

CCNY added one run in the fourth. Mandich reached on an error and moved to second with Uche Nwokelo's ground-out. Joseph DeCarlo doubled to left field to score Mandich. City trailed 8-2 after four.

St. Joseph's Long Island added four more runs in the top of the fifth to take a 12-2 lead, but City would not give up that easy. After both Justin Wong and Elmy Antonio were hit by pitches, Cacchione recorded a base-hit to load the bases. Siklas reached on a fielder's choice that scored both Wong and Antonio. Mandich then singled through the left side to score Cacchione. DeCarlo scored Siklas to score four runs in the fifth inning. City trailed 12-6 as they headed into the sixth inning.

RJ Saint-Hilare led off the sixth inning with a base-hit. Justin Wong then singled to center field to bring Saint-Hilare to second. Siklas recorded his second triple of the season to score both Saint-Hilare and Wong. CCNY trailed 12-8 after six.

St. Joseph's Long Island added a pair of runs in the seventh inning to make it a 14-8 game. Sautter would come off the mound and be replaced by Matt Sola-Baker after the seventh inning. Sautter finished the game giving up seven runs, six of which were earned.

Sola-Baker would pitch a shutout inning against the Golden Eagles. Sacha Urbach came in for the ninth inning. He would strikeout three to end the game. City fell 14-8 in game one.

Game Two
St. Joseph's Long Island continued their dominance from the first game to help them out in the second game. The Golden Eagles scored a pair of runs in the first inning. Jeffrey Diaz started on the mound for CCNY. In his 2.0 innings pitched, the starter gave up four runs, three were earned. The Golden Eagles led 4-0 after two innings.

City could not get anything going as the Golden Eagles were a wall defensively. Josef Bystrik came in for relief in the third inning and pitched a two shutout innings. Steven Giglio came in to pitch the fifth and gave up just one run to St. Joseph's Long Island. The Beavers trailed 5-0 after five.

DeCarlo recorded the only hit and run for CCNY in the sixth inning. He came up to the plate and sent one over the left field wall for his first collegiate home-run, and the team's 11th of the season. City trailed 5-1 headed into the final inning.

DeCarlo then pitched the sixth inning and shutout the Golden Eagles. City could not get the bats going in the seventh and fell 5-1 in game two.

CCNY will travel to face NYU on Friday, April 29 in their make-up game. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
