ALFRED, N.Y. – The Oswego State softball team fell twice to Alfred University on Wednesday afternoon at Harrington Park. Oswego fell 8-0 in game one before dropping the second contest by a score of 5-3. With the losses, the Lakers fall to 13-14 on the season while the regionally-ranked Saxons improve to 22-10.

GAME 1:
After giving up three runs between the first three innings, the Lakers attempted a comeback in the top
of the fourth. Tori Trovato doubled to start the frame and was followed by an Ashley Lyman walk. The two runners advanced a base on a groundout by Alexis Nasca, but were left stranded as the next two batters collected back-to-back outs. The Saxons were able to tack on five more in the next two innings, ending the game in five innings.

GAME 2:
In the second contest, the Lakers were able to break out the offense early, recording a run in the first frame. Melissa Mulvaney led off with a single and was moved to second two batters later as Jacquie Porreca was walked. Mulvaney would get out at third on a fielder's choice during the next at bat but a Nasca single would reload the bases. With the table set, Claire Hewitt, who finished the evening going 3-for-3, singled, scoring Porreca from third.

The score remained 1-0 in the Lakers favor until the bottom of the third when the Saxons were able to plate two of their own and then two more in the fourth. In the fifth, the Lakers made a dent in the lead as Mulvaney led off with a double followed by a Trovato triple, but nobody could get Trovato across the plate after that.

A home run would give the Saxons another run in the fifth and Oswego would make a comeback attempt in the sixth with Hewitt scoring on a wild pitch, but the score remained 5-3 after seven in Alfred's favor.

Softball will return to action on Friday as the team heads to New Paltz for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
