OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's tennis team cruised to an 8-1
victory over Utica College Wednesday afternoon at Romney Indoor Tennis
Courts. With the win, Oswego moves to 7-2 on the year, while Utica drops
to 0-3.
After the match was all said and done, 11 different players had a hand in earning the Lakers a point. It started in doubles as Jimmy Terzian and Tyler Buxbaum easily handled their Utica opponents 8-1. Brian Manciocchi and Justin Scuderi followed suit at second, winning by a score of 8-2. The Lakers' first doubles team, Spencer Thorn and Brian Emigholz,
found themselves in a battle that required a seven-point tie breaker,
but the combo eventually came out victorious when they beat their
Pioneer counterparts 7-3 in the tie break.
In singles, the Lakers continued to roll, taking five of the six matches. Nick Retzkin (fourth) and Jon Matros (sixth) each won quickly, delivering a double-bagel (6-0, 6-0) performance. John Stanford found similar success, defeating Utica's Jake Nagolian 6-1, 6-0.
The final two Laker points came at the top of the line up as Sam McGrath cleaned up at first 6-0, 6-1 and Alex McCarthy was victorious at second 6-1, 6-1.
