Strack Starts Strong with Fourth-Place Finish at Bates
Emma Strack skied to a fourth-place finish in the women's 10K freestyle to lead the St. Lawrence University Nordic ski team on day two of the Bates College Carnival on Saturday at Black Mountain.
With the shortened course, the Saints skied seven loops on the short track, as Saturday's race was shortened from the originally scheduled 15K.
Strack, who did not race in the sprints on Friday, clocked in at 25:51.8 to finish fourth in her first race of the 2025 season. Caroline Tarmy and Lilli Thomas also scored for the Saints, finishing 38th and 42nd, respectively.
One the men's side, Trevor Aitken led the way finishing 36th with a time of 23:59.5, while first-year Evan Nichols placed 44th and Justin Levesque finished 52nd to score for the Saints.
"It was a deceptively challenging course, but I think everyone handled it pretty well," said head coach Ethan Townsend. "It was a good step forward for the guys and a nice for personal best in the freestyle for Trevor and personal best overall for Justin, which was nice to see. It was also a very good day for the women. It was great to have Emma put in a solid qualifier so early in the season and we look forward to hopefully having Etta back next weekend, which should add some more depth."
Both the men's and women's teams improved on their 11th-place performances from Friday, as the women finished the day in sixth, while the men finished ninth.
Up Next: St. Lawrence Carnival, Mt. Van Hoevenburg, January 17-18.
