GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's basketball team traveled to Hartwick on Saturday afternoon and earned a 66-35 victory. The Knights win improves their record to 8-4 on the season and 3-0 in Empire 8 action, while the Hawks dip to 2-9 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Knights quickly jumped ahead on Hartwick, leading by nine points at 11-2 halfway through the first quarter. The Hawks were able to fight back to close the quarter, knocking down a pair of three's to make it a six point game at the break.
- Maggie McGrane jump-started the Geneseo offense in the second quarter, draining a three early on. The Knights went on to lead 27-16 going into halftime.
- Geneseo broke the game open in the third quarter, winning the frame by a score of 22-8. Grace Galgano and Audrey Hintz dominated the start of the quarter, scoring the Knights first 13 points, extending the lead to 22 points at 40-18. Geneseo's defense continued to stifle the Hawks down the stretch, easily holding on for the 66-35 win.
QUICK FACTS:
- Galgano led all scorers in the game with 13 points, while McGrane and Kristin Suydam joined her in double digits with 12 points each.
- Suydam recorded a double-double for the game with a team-high 11 rebounds, while Mackenzie Reigle dished out 10 assists.
- The Knights defense held the Hawks to just 26.9 percent shooting from the field.
