KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Keuka College Women's Lacrosse team lost to Elmira College on Wednesday by the score of 11-7.
Keuka College (2-5) will remain at home this weekend as they host Lancaster Bible College at 1pm on Saturday.
Maura Gosson and Kendall Neuberger each had two goals and an assist for Keuka. Morgan Bruno added a goal and an assist. Rounding out the scoring for Keuka was Ashley Appell and Elizabeth Sherman, each scoring a goal. Alyna Thayer made a career-high nine saves in the loss.
Elmira got out to a lightning fast start and held a 2-0 advantage
over Keuka just 44 seconds into the game. The lead would grow to 4-0
before Ashley Appell scored on the man-up halfway through the first. The
Soaring Eagles regained their four goal margin, 6-2, in the closing
minutes of the half. With 22 seconds left, Elizabeth Sherman scored her
first career goal on the man-up, off of a free position to make it 6-3. Vanessa Tsarevich
won the ensuing draw and quickly found Kendall Neuberger.
Neuberger
streaked down the field and found the back of the net with eight seconds
left in the half to make the score 6-4 going into the break.
Keuka opened the scoring in the second half has Neuberger found
Gosson, making it a one-goal game. Elmira would slowly build their lead
back up. They went up by three, 8-5, but Morgan Bruno scored just 26
seconds later to draw it back to 8-6. The Soaring Eagles went on a three
goal run to take control of the game, leading 11-6 with 11 minutes
left. Keuka would only manage one goal in the remaining clock as Elmira
defeated the Green and Gold 11-7.
