Brewers' Comeback Bid Falls Short

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — The Vassar College women's lacrosse team ended both halves with solid runs, but ultimately came up short at home against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Friday.

With the loss the Brewers fall to 5-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while the Engineers improve to 5-4 and 1-2 in the Liberty League.

Storm Sideleau paced the Brewers with three goals, while Julia Trudell added two. Isabelle Goldstein, Phoebe Hankins and Amelia Rivoir each tacked on a goal as well.

Goalkeeper Kristin Caolo took the loss with four saves, while Rebecca Wilen earned the win with 10,
as Vassar outshot RPI, 18-6.

Erin DeLucca led all scorers with four goals, while Maddy Aslansan potted two. Allie Clarion, Abbey Salvon, Mackenzie O'Neil and Sophie Sreden all scored a goal as well.

RPI got on the board first, but Trudell quickly responded with a goal of her own, 1-1. The Engineers used a 5-1 run, broken up by Sideleau, to take a 6-2 advantage with 4:51 remaining in the half.

That's when the Brewers made their big push, scoring three unanswered between the first and second half. Goldstein found Hankins for the first goal and Trudell for the third, with Sideleau scoring the second by herself.

RPI scored four unanswered before Vassar ended the second half with three of their own. Goldstein netted her 16th of the season before helping Revoir notch her fifth. Sideleau capped the contest with her 23rd of the season with 3:51 remaining, as the Brewers' comeback bid fell just short.

Vassar picked up more ground balls than RPI, 18-16, and won more draw controls as well, 11-9.

The Brewers are back in action Saturday, April 9 when they host the Thoroughbreds of Skidmore College at 2 p.m. for Friends of Jaclyn Day.
