Rams Sweep Gryphons; Anderson Hits for the Cycle

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State softball team picked up two Skyline conference wins today with 13-1 and 9-0 victories over Sarah Lawrence College (6-15, 1-9). With the wins, the Rams improved to 10-10 overall, 8-2 in conference play.

Senior catcher Meagan Anderson (Patchogue, N.Y.) hit for the cycle in the first game and was a perfect 7-for-7 for the day. She led off game one with a triple down the right field line, singled to center in the second, homered in the third and knocked a double to left in the fourth inning. She finished 4-for-4 with four runs scored, three RBI's and a stolen base. In the second game of the day, she was 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.

In game one, the Rams opened with a three-run first inning. Junior left fielder Allison Dailey
(Commack, N.Y.) brought home Anderson with a sacrifice fly, while freshman centerfielder Aleysha Midgett (Huntington, N.Y.) hit a two-RBI double to centerfield, scoring freshman shortstop Christina Rayfield (Commack, N.Y.) and junior first baseman Lori Michalowski (Lindenhurst, N.Y.). In the second, singles by Michalowski and Rayfield added two more runs, along with one run scored on an error for a 6-0 FSC lead.

Anderson's homer in the third made it 9-0 Rams, before a Jenna Crawford (Farmingdale, N.Y.) RBI-single gave Farmingdale State a 10-0 advantage. The Rams allowed one run in the top of the fourth, but plated three in the bottom of the inning before a 1-2-3 top of the fifth secured the 13-1 win.

Michalowski finished 3-for-4 with two RBI's and one run scored. Freshman pitcher Jaxie Collard (Deer Park, N.Y.) hurled four innings allowing five hits and one earned run with three strikeouts.
Game two featured a five-run first inning, including a three-run homerun by junior centerfielder Breanna Susa (Bay Shore, N.Y.). In the second, a sacrifice fly by Ana Vargas (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and RBI single by Michalowski gave the Rams a 7-0 edge. Two more in the third would be all the Rams needed as they cruised to a 9-0 win to complete the conference sweep.

Collard pitched three innings with two strikeouts and two hits allowed. Junior pitcher Renee Chicco (North Babylon, N.Y.) threw two hitless innings with one strikeout and one walk.

Susa went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and three RBI, while Anderson was 3-for-3 and Michalowski was 2-for-2 with two RBI's and one run scored.
