FREDONIA, N.Y. -- A two-run single by Quinn Danahy
(Buffalo, N.Y./Bishop TImon) in the last of the ninth completed
Fredonia's 7-6 comeback win over Medaille in college baseball Wednesday
at Ludwig Field.
Down 6-1 before rallying, Danahy's hit -- his second of the day and his
second and third RBI -- gave the Blue Devils (15-15) their fourth
walk-off win of the season.
Sophomore right-hander Steve Zaprowski
(Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville North) earned his first win as a
Blue Devil with four innings of relief work. He's 1-0 with one save this
spring.
Fredonia's top hitter was junior Liam Kelly
(Buffalo, N.Y./Bishop Timon), who had four hits, including a single in
the ninth ahead of the game-winning hit by his former high school
teammate.
The comeback began with a run in the sixth and a three-run seventh.
Danahy brought in the sixth-inning run with a fielder's choice following
back-to-back singles by Kelly and Michael Prentice (West Seneca, N.Y./St. Francis).
The seventh-inning uprising began with a lead-off single by Joshua Crocetti (Rochester, N.Y.), followed by an RBI double by Zaprowski and an RBI single by Kyle Sherman (North Collins, N.Y./North Collins). After a Medaille pitching change, Ciro Frontale (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) singled ahead of an RBI single by Kelly.
Fredonia's first run came in the fourth inning, the result of singles by Kelly, Danahy, and Alexio Medina (Alden, N.Y./Iroquois).
Four different players had two hits each for the Mavericks (7-17), who left 13 runners stranded.
The Blue Devils have a with a three-game SUNYAC series at Brockport,
starting with a single game 3 p.m. Friday, followed by a doubleheader
Saturday.
