After a scoreless first, the Continentals were the first to put a tally up, recording two in the bottom of the second. The Lakers matched that in the top of the third starting with a Jacquie Porreca double that scored Erin Sweeney from second. Alexis Nasca followed that at bat with a single, scoring Bailee Welker who was pinch running for Porreca.
Hamilton went back up by one in the bottom of the frame, only to be matched once again by the
Lakers in the top of the fifth. Nasca earned her second RBI of the day, sending a sacrifice fly to center field that allowed Sweeney to cross the plate from third.
The Lakers then took control of the game in the sixth, posting eight runs on five hits. Melanie Klauser began the side with a single followed by a Katie Heselden single. The two advanced a base on a wild pitch and were joined by Tori Trovato who took first on a walk. In the next at-bat, Sweeney reached on a fielder's choice in which the shortstop threw Klauser out at home. The catcher attempted to throw out Sweeney taking second but overthrew the ball, allowing Sweeney to reach, Trovato to go to third and Heselden to score. Porreca followed that crazy play, with a clean single that cleared the bases. A pair of back-to-back singles by Nasca and Ashley Lyman were then able to get Porreca to home.
With Nasca and Lyman on and Melissa Mulvaney getting walked, the bases were juiced for Gabriella Vertuccio. The sophomore was able to get on through an error by the short stop that in turn scored Lyman and Nasca. The final two runs of the inning were secured by Heselden as she reached on an error in her second at-bat of the frame.
Brittney Sears started the game on the rubber for Oswego and was relieved but Alexis Nasca who finished out the game and earned her third win of the year.
Softball returns to action on at 3 p.m. on Friday as the team hosts Potsdam for a doubleheader at Laker Softball Field.
