Softball Splits with West Chester

Clermont, Fla. – After falling 3-0 to West Chester University of Pennsylvania, the softball team held on for a 3-2 victory to split the doubleheader with the Golden Rams. Molloy improved to 4-7 on the season while West Chester sits at 9-6.

Game 1: Molloy 0, West Chester 3
The Golden Rams took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI double.
A two-run triple in the bottom of the third set the score at 3-0.

Molloy's best scoring chance of the contest came in the top of the seventh inning following a two-out walk to freshman Angelique Serrano and a single from senior Tara Byrnes. A passed ball advanced both runners into scoring position, but the maroon and white were unable to plate a run.

Sophomore Courtney Greene threw a complete game, striking out two batters.

Byrnes, Serrano, sophomore Sarah Glaser and freshman Alex Burns each recorded hits.

Game 2: West Chester 2, Molloy 3
WCU struck first in the second game, taking a 1-0 lead on an RBI single through the left side.
Back-to-back singles in the second inning by freshmen Amanda King and Lauren Ramos set up an RBI single from Byrnes to knot the score.

Serrano scored on a throwing error by West Chester's first baseman to put Molloy in front 2-1 in the fifth inning.

The Lions plated another run the next at bat on a sacrifice fly from Burns.

The Golden Rams would come within one in the top of the sixth, scoring on an error by the maroon and white.

Sophomore Tonianne Larson kept West Chester off the board in the seventh inning to pick up her second save of the season. Senior Jenna Turato went 5.1 innings, striking out four batters, to improve to 3-3.

King went 2-for-3 for the Lions with Burns and Byrnes recording RBIs.
