Brewers Fall To No. 12 Cardinals

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – No. 12 Wesleyan scored three goals in the first four minutes of play and did not look back as the Brewers fell 13-5 on the road. Alessandria Fable (Orlando, FL) led Vassar with two goals, while junior Kelly Pushie (Mahwah, NJ) and freshman Melanie Silverman (Southbury, CT) added two points each.

With the loss Vassar falls to 0-2. Wesleyan moves to 2-0.

After opening on a 3-0 lead, Vassar got on the board at 24:46 off Fable's first goal of the game. The Cardinals would start to run soon after, building a commanding 9-1 lead heading into the second half. Midway through the second, the Brewers went on a 3-0 run to cut the lead to 12-4. Pushie notched a goal from Silverman's first-career assist at 16:17. Silverman then assisted on the next goal from Tessa Waters (Skokie, IL). Freshman Caeli Porette (Stony Point, NY) found net at 8:48.

Wesleyan scored once more at 5:36, but Fable was the final scorer when she tabbed the goal off a Pushie feed.

MacLeod led the Brewers with four groundballs, while Skylar Herrera-Ross (Alameda, CA) scooped up three. Porette had solid defensive showing with six caused turnovers. Fable also led Vassar in draw controls with five. Freshman Jackie Molloy (Buffalo Grove, IL) started in net and made six saves.

The Brewers now travel for their spring break trip to Port Charlotte, Florida where they will play two games. First, Vassar plays Westfield State on Tuesday, March 12 at 7:30 p.m. and then Eastern Connecticut on Thursday, March 14 at 4:30 p.m.
