Panthers Fall to WestConn

Purchase, NY (March 28, 2018) – Field issues created by recent inclement weather moved Purchase's road twin bill to the campus Wednesday, but Western Connecticut State managed to win both ends as the hosts anyway, defeating the Panthers 11-3 and 9-3, respectively.

WestConn won the opener in five innings. Purchase's Lisa Kentris (JR/Latham, NY) and Daniella Edelson (JR/Hopewell Junction, NY) were highlights offensively. Kentris doubled and finished with two RBI. Edelson accounted for the other RBI, joining Kentris in collecting two hits.

WestConn shortstop Charline Plasczynski belted two home runs to break its eight-game losing streak by taking a pair of games at Purchase.

In the opener, Plasczynski went 3-for-3 with a round-tripper and a double. She drove in three runs and scored twice.

The Colonials, now 3-13, pounded out 11 hits including back-to-back-to-back home runs in the six-run fourth inning. Joining Plasczynski with a home run were Sophia Palacios and Kayla Nowak.

In the nightcap, Angelina Miller improved to 2-5 on the season after going the distance. She allowed three runs on six hits while striking out four.

Reilly McMahon had a pair of one-run singles in her first two trips to the plate. Plasczynski's solo home run in the fifth inning started a three-run frame.

The Colonials had the wheels in motion in as they swiped 17 bases in the two games, including 11 in the nightcap.

Antonina Fiore (SR/Mount Sinai, NY) and Edelson paced Purchase in game two. Fiore had two of the team's six hits. She added a run and an RBI. Edelson collected a team-best two-RBI, and joined teamed Gabriella Carnevale (FR/Carteret, NJ) by doubling in the loss.

Purchase is now 3-3.
