Blue Angel Baseball Drops Single Game Against Mount Saint Mary Knights

WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. - The College of New Rochelle's baseball team traveled to play a non-conference game under the lights at the Dutchess Stadium in Wappingers Falls, New York against the Mount Saint Mary Knights. The Blue Angels dropped the nine inning game, 12-8.


New Rochelle had a strong opening inning at the plate. Jared Edwards (Spring Valley, N.Y.) led the team with a single down the left line and stole second base while Juan Diaz Jimenez (Caguas, P.R.) was at bat. Diaz Jimenez followed with a single to right field advancing Edwards to third base. New Rochelle added another stolen base advancing Diaz Jimenez to second. Rocky J Gonzalez Baez (Bayamon, P.R.) hit a single to left field posting two RBI as Diaz Jimenez and Edwards scored. The inning would end after a few more at bats from the Blue Angels after a fielders choice put a Blue Angel out at second. 


Mount Saint Mary also came out swinging in the bottom of the first posting three runs. The score had the Knights ahead 3-2 going in to the top of the second. The game remained quite until the top of the third inning when New Rochelle's catcher Thomas Velazquez (Bronx, N.Y.) singled down the left line, adding an RBI allowing Edgardo Figueroa (San Lorenzo, P.R.) to score to tie the game at 3-3 before the Knights went to bat in the bottom of the inning. They posted five runs to take the lead at 8-5.


Another big inning from the Knights put them over the Blue Angels 12-3 going into the top of the fifth. From the mound Steven Dominguez (Corona, N.Y.) held the Knights for the remainder of the game.  


The Blue Angels remained scoreless until the top of the seventh. Thomas Velazquez hit a RBI double down the left line and Jan S. Matos Lorenzo (Aguada, P.R.) crossed home plate. New Rochelle added two more runs to the board in the top of the eighth. A two RBI hit from freshman Chris Suarez (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) brought the Blue Angels within six runs of the knights, 12-6. 


New Rochelle continued to battle in the top of the eighth. Juan Diaz Jimenez stepped up to the plate with bases loaded and reached on error by the Knights, posting two RBI, bringing the score to 12-8 with only one out. The Blue Angels were unable to add to the board after that suffering the last two outs in a single play during the next batter.
