Columbia MEN'S TENNIS OPENS IVY PLAY WITH A WIN AT PENN

PHILADELPHIA - The No. 15 ranked Columbia men's tennis team picked up a 4-2 victory today at Penn in the opening match of Ivy League play. The victory helps the Lions improve to 12-3 overall and 1-0 in Ancient Eight play, while the Quakers fall to 12-10 (1-1 Ivy).

Columbia started off hot with a doubles point win, as all three matches went to the Lions. Rian Pandole and Jackie Tang were able to power past Max Cancilla and Aleks Huryn, 6-0, before the point was clinched by Adam Ambrozy and Michal Rolski, with a 7-5 win in the No. 2 match. The No. 40 ranked pair of Jack Lin and William Matheson were able to skate by Kyle Mautner and Dmitri Shatalin, 6-4, sealing the deal.

With a 1-0 lead, the Lions were able to take a trio of singles matches to clinch the win.

In the No. 2 match, the No. 42 ranked Jackie Tang cruised by Josh Pompan, 6-0, 6-3. Ambrozy got by Statalin, 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 3 match, while Austen Huang upended Cancilla, 6-3, 7-5, at No. 4.

At 1-0 in Ivy play, Columbia next welcomes Princeton on Sunday, April 8 at 1:00 p.m. in the Dick Savitt Tennis Center. The Tigers entered the weekend at 15-8, before a big 4-3 victory against No. 47 Cornell moved them to 16-8 and 1-1 in Ivy League play.

For the Tigers, Luke Gamble and Danian Rodriguez were the No. 90 ranked doubles team in the ITA.
