MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College men's lacrosse team rolled to a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victory Saturday afternoon as they topped visiting Wells College by a final 26-7 on Drake Field in Morrisville.
The win is the third straight for the Mustangs who improve to 3-0 within conference play, and improve to 4-7 overall on the year. Wells drops to 3-5, 1-2 in NEAC action.
Fifteen different Mustangs collected scores on the afternoon, led by junior Nick Geswaldo (Lafayette, N.Y.) who posted a team high five to go along with two assists. Brad Biggs (Tully, N.Y.) added three, assisting another two.
Dan Sherlock (Tully, N.Y.) recorded the win in net, appearing in the first half of play, before being relieved by Paul Gates (West Winfield, N.Y.) for the second half. Gates made one stop.
Morrisville State dominated the center X, winning a total 33-of-37 faceoffs, Nate McCormick
(Cortland, N.Y.) putting in a perfect performance as he collected 17-of-17 wins, along with Josh Palin (Lafayette, N.Y.) who added another 12 on 15 attempts. Shawn Walberger (Fulton, N.Y.) won 4-of-5. McCormick also added nine ground ball pickups as Morrisville State won the ground battle 54-11.
Morrisville State jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with tallies by Eric Fisher (Nutley, N.J.) and Logan Peters (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) just three minutes in, but Aaron Heisey quickly responded for the Express with two straight to knot the game at two with 10 minutes to go in the opening quarter.
Peters finished with two goals and two assists.
Geswaldo then posted three straight, including his 100th career tally, to regain the lead for the Mustangs, 5-2.
Another tally from Heisey brought Wells within two, but that's as close as they could get in the first half as Morrisville State rattled off 10 straight scores, including 12 in the second quarter to claim the 18-4 halftime lead.
In the third, Morrisville State picked up where they left off and quickly added to their lead with a score off the face-off from Chad Warren (Lafayette, N.Y.), adding two more, one each from Zach Palin (Lafayette, N.Y.) and another from Adam Jensen (Waterloo, N.Y.) to claim the 21-5 advantage after three.
Wells lone score of the third came from Brian Buttner at the 13:16 mark.
In the fourth, Morrisville State again outscored the visitors 5-2, claiming the 26-7 conference win.
