New Paltz, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz men's soccer team in partnership with the Office of Veteran & Military Services, announced the date of the annual Heinz Ahlmeyer Jr. soccer game, which will take place Saturday, Oct. 2 on the South Turf Field.
Due to COVID-19, the 2020 fall season was canceled, along with the annual event that honors 1966 graduate and former men's soccer player Heinz Ahlmeyer Jr. who was killed in action in the Vietnam War in 1967. The Athletics, Wellness and Recreation Department named one of its most prestigious annual awards after Ahlmeyer Jr. who was beloved by all of his teammates and coaches. The Office of Veteran & Military Services will have a table set up prior to entry and will accept $5 donations that will go toward supporting veteran students at SUNY New Paltz. Donations can also be made to the Office of Veteran & Military Services, here.
The Hawks are set to face SUNYAC rival SUNY Plattsburgh Oct. 2 with the game scheduled for a 1 p.m. start. Along with honoring Heinz Ahlmeyer Jr. with former teammates of the storied 1965 men's soccer team planning to attend, SUNY New Paltz will also honor its 2021 senior class prior to the start of the game as well.
