Three players score in 3-1 win for Continentals
Hamilton College received goals from three players and Grace Chapis '24 had two assists as the Continentals pulled away for a 3-1 NESCAC win over the Connecticut College Camels at Hamilton's Goodfriend Field on Sunday afternoon.
The Continentals (5-2, 2-2 NESCAC) dominated
Goaltender Jackie Mountford kept the Camels (1-5, 0-4) in the game by making 11 saves, incluidng five in the first quarter and six in the fourth. Colleen Raftery also came up with a defensive save early in the first quarter.
Delaney Grace '25 gave the Continentals a 1-0 lead on her first collegiate goal with 2:37 left in the first quarter. Chapis wristed the ball from a couple yards outside the circle and Grace, who was set up about five yards in front of the cage, tipped it just inside the right post.
Conn. College tied the score with 8:40 remaining in the second quarter about 40 seconds after Hamilton defender Grace Cooper '24 was sent off for a green card infraction. An initial shot was blocked following a penalty corner, but Elektra Rodger controlled the loose ball and sent a short pass to Rowan Galanis, and she whacked a shot into the back of the cage.
Hamilton took the lead for good just 3:12 later. Alana King '24 emerged from a scrum just outside the circle and carried the ball inside from the right wing. She drove in to within a few yards from the goal line and smacked a low shot into the left side of the cage for her first goal with the Continentals.
After a scoreless third quarter, Hamilton still held a slim 2-1 advantage. Maura Holden '23 gave the Continentals the insurance goal they needed. Lexi Takashima '22 inserted the ball on Hamilton's 11th penalty corner and the ball eventually made its way around the circle to Chapis. She found Holden set up about five yards from the cage and Holden pivoted and fired a one-timer past Mountford with 6:19 to go. Holden leads the Continentals with five goals this fall.
Maggie Reville '22 made four saves for Hamilton and owns a 1.51 goals against average and .761 save percentage this season.
