Multiple Saxons Shine in 7-2 Win Over Russell Sage

ALBANY, NY – Consistency in singles action led to a 7-2 victory for the Alfred University women's tennis team over Russell Sage College on Sunday from the Tri-City Tennis Facility.

"Today was a huge bounce-back for us," Head

The Saxons (2-6, 1-2 Empire 8) found their first point from the doubles play of junior Isabelle Benoit (Bow, NH/Tilton School) and sophomore Alex Rossen (Charlton, NY/The Darrow School), who won 8-2 against Jillian Goralewski and Maria Inserra from No. 2. Benoit had further success in singles play, sweeping Dudlie Salomon 6-0, 6-0 from No. 6. Rossen defeated Gwen Eichen in singles, 6-0, 6-4, from No. 4.

The combined efforts from first-year Abigail Call (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) and sophomore Anna Gwozdz (South Wales, NY/Iroquois) resulted in an 8-2 win over Kenedy Cherry and Eichen from No. 3. Call clinched a point for the Saxons during her 6-1, 6-0 victory against Inserra from No. 5.

Senior Lauren Boshart (Oswego, NY/Oswego) secured the winning point in a 6-0, 6-2 win over from No. 3. First-year Macy Youngberg (Falconer, NY/Falconer Central) had success in her singles matchup against Taylor Gillespie, winning 6-2, 6-4.

"We talked afterwards about seeing how much better we play when we're confident," Crouch said. "Today was a case in just that. I'm excited to see how we carry this momentum into the rest of the year."

The Saxons will continue their Empire 8 competition by hosting Utica College on Friday at 4pm.
