Bears fall at Cortland in SUNYAC opener

CORTLAND, N.Y.—SUNY Cortland (3-3-1, 1-0 SUNYAC) scored three times in the first half and twice in the second to defeat SUNY Potsdam (4-3, 0-1) 5-0 in the teams' SUNYAC opener on Friday afternoon. Jaden Galluzzo had two goals and an assist to lead Cortland.

The Red Dragons jumped out in front just 3:43

into the contest. Lizzy Sabatelle one-timed a Kayla Valerioti throw-in just inside the right post for a 1-0 Cortland lead. At the 24:10 mark, Simone Neivel doubled the lead with another one-timer, this time off a cross from Galuzzo. Galluzzo then made it a three-goal game after she found herself alone in front of Bears freshman goalkeeper Savannah Bowie (Mechanicville, N.Y./Mechanicville) and found the back of the net. Katie Cosenza and Isabella Auth each assisted on the play. Cortland outshot the Bears 9-5 in the opening 45 minutes. Bowie stopped four shots in the half and Red Dragons goalie Lexi Ramonetti stopped two shots.

Galluzzo got her second of the contest at 67:13, burying her own rebound with a helper from Cosenza. Cortland continued to pressure the Bears in the second half, keeping them on the defensive. At 87:33, Grace Paliwodzinski found Rachel Lacoff at the right side of the box and Lacoff struck to close the scoring at 5-0.

Bowie finished with a career-high nine saves, while Ramonetti had two stops for the shutout.
