ITHACA/CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Ithaca College golf team finished second overall during this weekend's Cortaca Northeast Invitational, which took place at RaNic Golf Club (Ithaca) and Cortland Country Club, on Saturday and Sunday. Ithaca shot a team total of 651 (+75) over the two-day event, as the Bombers carded 327 at RaNic during the first round and 324 at Cortland to close out the weekend.
Hamilton College claimed first with a 635 (+59)
"I was happy to see the team play well this weekend," said head coach Keith Batson. "We stayed consistent over two days and two different courses and I'm looking forward to see how we play next weekend at Williams."
Senior Katherine Chan, who was slotted as IC's No. 5 this weekend, tied 36-hole and 18-hole career-bests this weekend to finish in a tie for 23rd with a 173 (+29) to factor into IC's team total this weekend. Chan carded an 89 (+17) and followed up with a career-tying mark of 84 (+12) on Sunday.
"It was great to see such a great performance our senior Katie (Chan) this weekend. She really helped our team score on Sunday. Mary and Cristea continued to lead our program with their strong performances over the weekend."
Chan carded eight pars on Sunday and holed out a birdie on the par-4 2nd (330 yards) to highlight the round. She went out with a 43 and came in at 41. On Saturday, Chan posted six pars en rote to her opening round 89.
Juniors Cristea Park and Mary Gersec finished in a three-way tie for second, and just one stoke from the top finisher, with 156 (+12).
Park moved up seven spots on the leaderboard Sunday with a 76 (+4) after an 80 (+8) on Saturday. She got off to a great start during the opening round with a birdie on the par-3 2nd at RaNic on an 8-foot putt. At Cortland, Park concluded her weekend with a 36 on the back 9.
Gersec carded a pair of birdies in Ithaca on Saturday, coming in from the back 9 on the par-3 11th (131 yards) and par-4 15th (342 yards), to finish with a 79 (+7). She then shot a 77 (+5) at Cortland this afternoon, by holing 11 pars and a birdie on the par-4 17th (347 yards).
Rheanna DeCrow finished in 16th with a +22, 166. DeCrow was tied for fifth after a 79 (+7) on Saturday in Ithaca with back-to-back birdies on 12 (par-5, 450 yards and 13 (par-3, 140 yards).
Caitlin McGrinder came in a tie for 32nd with 179 (+35). McGrinder shot a 91 in Ithaca but rebounded to shoot 88 in Cortland today.
IC concludes its fall season next weekend in Williamstown, Mass. at the Williams Invitational on Oct. 2-3.
