Short Story: The UAlbany baseball team suffered a series sweep at Maine over the weekend to fall to 1-5 in conference play.
Coach Mueller: “We didn’t do many things right, that’s for sure. We came up here and played a good Maine team and had three tough starts. We got off the gate poorly today, but we played from behind pretty much the whole weekend. So we have to get back together, get back to the work bench, and get ready for next weekend.”

How it happened
- Maine got out to an early lead, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first
- UAlbany scored its lone run of the game in the top of the second to cut the lead to 4-1. Ryan Hernandez, who hit a home run in each of yesterday’s games, led off the inning with a double down the left field line. Next, Travis Collins hit a single to center that allowed Hernandez to advance to third. Two batters later, Nick Kondo drew a walk to load the bases with one out. With the bases loaded and two outs, Patrick Lagravinese drew a walk, forcing in Hernandez.
- Maine retook a four-run lead with one run in the bottom of the third
- Maine scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth and four in the bottom of the sixth to take a 12-1 lead
- Maine added five runs in the bottom of the eighth to make the final score 17-1
- UAlbany was unable to mount a comeback attempt in the ninth, going down in order to end the game
Next: UAlbany will look to bounce back quickly with two midweek games, first on Tuesday, April 3 at Marist and then Wednesday, April 4 at LIU Brooklyn. The Great Danes will host Hartford for three games starting next Saturday.
