The Purchase College women's lacrosse team bested the College of Mount Saint Vincent 19-15 at home Thursday, improving to 6-0 overall and more importantly 2-0 in Skyline Conference play. The loss drops CMSV to 3-3, including 0-1 in the league.
The red-hot Panthers started strong and finished strong.
The reigning Skyline Conference Player of the Week, Zoe Hines (SR/Maplewood, NJ), scored six goals on the afternoon. The tri-captain scored two of the first three strikes for an early 3-1 advantage.
It was 13-6 by halftime, with Kelly Turtell (SR/Farmingdale, NY) tallying the final goal of the period for Purchase. Turtell would finish the day with five goals, as her and Hines combined for 11 of the 19 scored.
Turtell now has 22 on the spring. Hines leads the team with 37.
Turtell finished the day with a game-high 10 points, adding five assists to her credit. Hines followed with seven points, including one assist. She also finished right behind the team leader in draw controls with seven.
Gabriella Castles (FR/Bethpage, NY) added a hat trick for the hosts. Astella Dacosta (SO/Croton-on-Hudson, NY) also scored three goals. Maddy Mecca (FR/Oceanside, NY) added the other two. Dacosta finished with a game-high eight draw controls. Castles joined Hines with seven.
Midway through the second period, Purchase led 18-10, but the Dolphins showed some fight, reeling off four straight. The Panthers regrouped behind Turtell's final goal of the day en route to the 19-15 win.
The Dolphins were paced by Caitlin Elia and her four goals. Shannon Dalton and Alicia Forgione added hat tricks in the loss.
