Early Goal Lifts La Salle Past Orange

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse women's soccer team (0-1-0) opened the 2018 regular season with a tough-luck setback, losing 1-0 against La Salle (1-0-0) Thursday night at SU Soccer Stadium. The match was the season opener for both squads.

"We knew what La Salle was going to be like - big, physical, combative and the ball was going to be in the air an awful lot," head coach Phil Wheddon said. "Just in one moment, their best player gets a ball on top of the box and manages to bury it. I'm disappointed because we controlled the game for the majority of the 90 minutes."

HOW IT WAS DECIDED
La Salle struck early, scoring the eventual game-winner six minutes into the match. Madison Bowers corralled a loose ball at the top of Syracuse's penalty box before bending the ball around redshirt senior goalkeeper Jordan Harris and into the back left corner of the goal.

OF NOTE
Syracuse tallied six shots, including four in the second half. Junior defender Taylor Bennett led the team with two shots.

The Orange's best scoring opportunity came in the 60th minute, when sophomore midfielder/forward Kate Hostage was fouled in the box. Bennett stepped up to take the penalty, but was stifled by La Salle's goalkeeper Claudia Jenkins.

Freshmen Abby Jonathan, Jenna Tivnan and Meghan Root and sophomore Stephanie deLaforcade made their collegiate debuts. Harris, a transfer from Arkansas, started in goal, making her first-ever appearance as a member of the Orange.

The Orange travel to UConn Monday, Aug. 20 before returning home to host St. John's Thursday, Aug. 23. Admission at SU Soccer Stadium is free.

McDonald's golden goal beats Sage in final seconds of double overtime

Dylan McDonald scored the game-winner with 25 seconds left in the second overtime.

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - It was an odd game from the start. So it was fitting that it ended in a most unusual way.

The Bard College women's soccer team edged Sage, 2-1, when Dylan McDonald scored with 25 seconds left in the second overtime on Tuesday night. It was Bard's first overtime victory since 2014.

Sage (6-5) carried play and produced more shots in the first half, but Bard scored, so it was 1-0 at halftime. And Bard (7-4) carried play and produced more shots in the second half, but Sage scored, so it was 1-1 at the end of regulation.

Both teams had chances in both overtimes. Both teams were exhausted at the end. But one team came out on top.

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY – Bard's Dylan McDonald scored the Raptor's game-winning goal with 24 seconds left in the final overtime to lift Bard 2-1 over Sage Tuesday night.

After 25 minutes of back-and-forth action, the momentum switched to the Gators with four unanswered shots by Shelby Sarraino (Watervliet, NY/Shaker), Taylor Lynch (Woodbury, NY/Saugerties) and Savannah Mason (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park). Bard (7-4) answered with a goal in the 34^th minute when Caroline Gluck played a long ball to Avalon Qian on the far post to go up 1-0. In the 39^th minute, Joleen Marfone (Remsen, NY/Remsen) and Mason each took a shot in a 12 second period, but both attempts were blocked.

In the 67^th minute, Sage's (6-5, 2-1 Skyline) Samantha Trimblett (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) scored the game-tying goal off a long pass from Monica Koralus (Verbank, NY/Milbrook) to the far upper corner of the Raptor goal.

Devils outshoot Elmira, yet fall 2-0

ELMIRA, N.Y. -- Despite a decided advantage in shots, Fredonia fell to Elmira, 2-0, in women's college soccer Tuesday afternoon.

The Blue Devils (3-9-0) took 22 shots, eight of them on net. The Soaring Eagles (1-7-1) countered with 15 shots, but got two past Fredonia goalkeeper Kendall Owczarzak (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) -- both by Sara Kazerouni. 

Kazerouni scored in the 14th minute, then added insurance in the 75th minute of the non-conference game. They were her fourth and fifth goals of the season.

Elmira's Amanda Banner made eight saves to earn the shutout. She stopped Alexis Moreland (Newfane, N.Y./Newfane) and Kaitlin Huyler (Troupsburg, N.Y./Jasper-Troupsburg) twice each. Moreland took eight shots overall.

The Blue Devils close out the season with six straight SUNYAC games, starting 3 p.m. Friday at home vs. Cortland.

Geyer's Hat Trick Earns Oswego First SUNYAC Win

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's soccer team downed the New Paltz Hawks—4-1—in its first conference matchup of the year. The Lakers record now stands at 4-1-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play. New Paltz falls to 1-7-2 and 0-1.

Emma Geyer had a huge day for Oswego, recording a hat trick by tallying a goal in the 30th, 48th and 66thminutes of the contest. The three-goal day was her first-career multi-goal game and equals the number of scores she had during the 2015 season. Geyer now leads the team in goals scored with five and in points with 11.

The first goal came immediately after New Paltz scored to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. Geyer capitalized on the lapse in focus and lackluster defense by dribbling to just outside the 18-yard box and threading the ball into the top-right corner of the goal.

Eighteen minutes later, the junior went straight back to work. Audrey Burbidge lined the ball between defenders to Geyer, who dribbled up and put it past the left-leaning goalie.

Burbidge continued to play with aggression and took two shots on-goal in the immediate couple of minutes following the previous goal. Seven minutes later, the sophomore was able to find the back of the net off a pass from Nicole Perniciaro, who dribbled up the middle of the field before finding Burbidge.

The final tally of the afternoon began as a corner kick, which Burbidge launched into the air. Timing it perfectly, Perniciaro headed the ball into the area occupied by Geyer. With an open space in front of her, the Liverpool, N.Y. native rocketed the ball and beat the goalie to complete the hat trick and secure Oswego's victory.

Melissa Siegfried clocked the first 85-plus minutes in goal and recorded three more saves to earn her fourth victory of the season and number 12 for her career. Finishing off the game between the posts was Allie Izzo, who recorded the final four minutes.

The Lakers will return to the pitch at 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon when they host conference-rival Oneonta.

Morrisville State women post thrilling 2OT win over Wilson

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Host Morrisville State College women's soccer posted a thrilling double overtime North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) win over visiting Wilson College Saturday afternoon in Morrisville.

The win boosts the Mustangs to 4-9 overall, 3-6 in NEAC action. Wilson drops to 2-8-1 overall, 1-7 in conference play.

Morrisville State had the chance to get on the board in the first half, but a Jasmine Wynter (Nedrow, N.Y.) shot was saved by the fingertips of Wilson keeper Brianna Martin to keep the hosts off the board.

Both teams remained scoreless in the second half, but not without a Wilson last second shot that ricocheted off the right post with two seconds remaining in a one versus Mustang goalkeeper opportunity.

Morrisville State put one in the back of the net three minutes into the first overtime period, but the goal was called off as the Mustangs were whistled offside.

With time winding down in the second overtime period, Celia Abbott (Shortsville, N.Y.) lined up for a corner kick and sent the ball into the box to a waiting Cavellier who one-timed the ball into the net for the game winning score with 1:18 remaining on the clock.

Kallie George (Tully, N.Y.) registered the win in net for Morrisville State, recording three saves.
Martin finished with 10 saves for the Phoenix.

Morrisville State returns to the field tomorrow, hosting Gallaudet University at 1 p.m. for senior day.

Lady Mavericks Earn First Win of the Season Against Franciscan

BUFFALO, NY – The Medaille College Women's Soccer team had played in four games this season decided by (1) goal or less. Until Sunday afternoon the Lady Mavs just hadn't been able to find a way to win those close games. Until Sunday. Medaille scored the only goal of the game against Franciscan, defeating the Barons (1-0) for their first win of the season in front of the home crowd.

On an unseasonably warm October afternoon, the Lady Mavs and Lady Barons played each other very evenly throughout the day. A majority of the match saw both sides battle for possession in the midfield, with neither defense willing to concede the game's first goal.

The teams went into the locker room at halftime knotted at zero, with the match very much looking like the first score could be the game winner.

That first and crucial goal came in the (59') minute, when senior Candis Kapuscinski (Holland, NY, Holland) took the ball on a counter attack and fed a beautiful pass to sophomore Kalyn Compeau (Tonawanda, NY, Tonawanda). Compeau took the feed from Kapuscinski and buried it past the keeper on a one-on-one opportunity, giving the Lady Mavs the (1-0) lead.

However, the Lady Barons made Medaille earn every second of this hard fought win. They put an enormous amount of pressure on the Lady Mavs defense, trying to tie the game in the final moments; however, senior keeper Alea Wade (Hamburg, NY, Frontier) stood tall in net and saved all (8) shots on goal.

The shutout was the first of Wade's career, and the win improved Medaille's record to (1-9-1) overall and (1-3-0) in the AMCC. The Lady Mavs will be back in action on Tuesday, when they host the Lions of Penn State-Behrend at Johnny B. Wiley at 1:15 pm.

Keuka College Wins Sixth Straight

MORRISTOWN, N.J. — The Keuka College Women's Soccer team traveled to New Jersey on Sunday and defeated the College of St. Elizabeth 14-0 in a North Eastern Athletic Conference game.
Keuka (7-5-2, 6-2 NEAC) got out to a fast start against the Eagles. Nicole Browe found the back of the net 2:02 into the game for the early lead. Darian Staufer backed that up with a goal 27 seconds later. 54 seconds after that, Browe got her second goal of the game. Keuka College continued to attack the Eagles and led 10-0 at halftime. They continued to control the play in the second half on their way to the 14-0 victory.

Browe finished with three goals for the Green and Gold. Hannah Dalle led Keuka with four goals in the match. Danielle Desimone also added her first career hat trick for Keuka. Jordan Fredell finished with a pair of goals and Alex Milazzo added a tally. Maeve Fletcher earned her fourth win in as many starts for Keuka.

Keuka College will return home for a pair of games next weekend as a part of Green and Gold Weekend at Keuka College. They will host SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday and SUNY Poly on Sunday. Both games are scheduled to kickoff at 3pm at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.

Winning Streak Snapped With Loss At Penn College

WILLIAMSTOWN, Pa. – Senior Heather Hiltbrand (Fayetteville, N.Y.) scored the lone goal for the Wells College women's soccer team in its 3-1 loss to North Eastern Athletic Conference-rival Penn College on Sunday. Wells snaps its three-game winning streak, falling to 4-10 overall on the year and to 3-4 in conference play. Penn College, who lost its first NEAC conference of the year on Saturday to Keuka, rebounds to 6-6-2 overall and to 6-1-1 in league play.

Trailing by a 3-0 margin, a Wells player was fouled near midfield. On a direct kick, Hiltbrand cut into the Penn College lead with her fifth goal of the season at 77:05. Hiltbrand exited play on Sunday with 27 career goals, the third-most by any player in the NCAA Division III era of Wells athletics. She recently passed Aliyah Brandt '06 to capture third place all-time on the Express Division III career point-scoring list (27-10=64).

The Wildcats took the early 1-0 lead after Angela Maniscalco got behind the Wells defense and beat Wells goalkeeper Quinn Doubet (Virgil, N.Y.) on a breakaway. Taking the 1-0 lead into halftime, Hanna Williams scored two quick goals in the second half to put her team up by a 3-0 margin at 62:15. Both goals were scored in similar fashion as Williams received a right-to-left cross both times.

Penn College outshot the Express by a 15-to-11 margin but Wells possessed 10 of the game's 12 corner kick opportunities.

Doubet drew the loss, falling to 1-10 on the year after allowing three goals on six shots. Hailey Heistand turned aside seven-of-eight shots faced, picking up the victory in goal for Penn College.

Wells will play four of its final five regular season games at home, taking on Morrisville State College at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at the South Athletic Field.

Maloney Paces Offense In 9-1 Victory Over St. Elizabeth

MORRISTOWN, N.J. – Freshman Mackenzie Maloney (Huntington Station, N.Y.) recorded her first career hat trick for the Wells College women's soccer team en route to its 9-1 victory over the College of Saint Elizabeth on Saturday. Wells moves to 4-9 overall and to 3-3 within the North Eastern Athletic Conference while the Eagles drop to 0-10 overall, remaining winless in six conference matches.

Maloney recorded three goals and one assist for seven points (3-1=7), becoming the first Wells player to record a hat trick since teammate Yanna Ososkalo (Lyme, N.Y.) on Sept. 14, 2014 against Wilson. Junior Amber Welsh (Cortland, N.Y.) added two goals of her own while senior Heather Hiltbrand (Fayetteville, N.Y.), Ososkalo and freshman Jordan Lidell (Pitcher, N.Y.) each scored a goal while adding an assist.

Women's Soccer Downed 5-1 By SUNY Polytechnic Wildcats in NEAC Action

Fighting Tigers Drop 5-1 Road Decision at SUNY Polytechnic

Marcy, N.Y. - The SUNY Cobleskill women's soccer team dropped a 5-1 decision to host SUNY Polytechnic Institute on Saturday afternoon in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action. The loss drops the Fighting Tigers to 0-10 overall on the season including a 1-5 mark in league play while the Wildcats move to 6-3-2 overall with a 4-1-1 mark in conference play.

Freshman forward Kimberly Sullivan, Dedham, Mass., Norfolk County Agricultural High School, scored Cobleskill's lone goal on the afternoon on a break-a-way in the ninth minute of play.

The Orange & Black will return to action after the college's fall break on Saturday October 17^th for a NEAC match-up with the Wolfpack of Keuka College with kick-off scheduled for 3:00 p.m.

Longo’s 7 points lead Herons to 5-0 win at St. Lawrence

William Smith College senior Krista Longo logged a hat trick and added an assist to lead the No. 6 Heron soccer team to a 5-0 Liberty League victory over St. Lawrence in Canton, N.Y., this afternoon. With its eighth straight win, William Smith improves to 9-1-1 overall and 4-0-0 in conference play.

It was also the Herons' eighth straight shutout and ninth shutout of the season. The Saints fall to 8-3-0 and 1-3-0 in the Liberty League.

Longo had a hand in the first four goals of the game. Her seven points today are a career-high. She now shares a team-high with 11 points on five goals and an assist this season.  Junior Emma Diehl registered a goal and an assist. First-year goalie Kaileen Murray played all 90 minutes in goal for William Smith and stopped the two shots she faced to secure her seventh shutout this year.

Longo started the scoring in the 32nd minute with a header goal after a corner kick sent into the box by Diehl. Longo struck again 13:13 later to make it 2-0. Her second goal came off a feed through the Saints' defense by junior Kara Shue.

In the 49th minute, junior Shay Callahan extended the William Smith lead to 3-0. Her second goal of the season came after a through ball by Longo. Longo completed her hat trick in the 62nd minute on a shot from 18 yards out. In the 82nd minute, Diehl capped the victory with a penalty kick goal. It was her first goal this season.

Kelsey West played all 90 minutes in goal for the Saints and made three saves. The Herons finished with an 18-8 advantage in shots and a 9-1 lead in corners.

William Smith will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 16, when it travels to take on Vassar in a Liberty League match at 4 p.m.

Women’s Soccer Hands Penn First NEAC Loss

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Soccer team defeated the Penn College Wildcats on Saturday afternoon in a North Eastern Athletic Conference match by the score of 2-1.

Keuka wins their fifth straight match, improving their record to 6-5-2 and 5-2 in conference. It was the first lost of the conference season for Penn, who is now 5-1-1 in the NEAC.

UAlbany Women’s Soccer Outshoots Stony Brook 20-10 but Falls on the Road 2-0

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Despite 20 shots against the Seawolves, the UAlbany women’s soccer team ran into a strong goalkeeper and fell at Stony Brook 2-0 on Thursday night at LaValle Stadium.
UAlbany (6-7-1, 1-2-1 AE) outshot Stony Brook (4-7-2, 1-2-0 AE) 20-10 in the game, including 14-3 in the second half, but all nine shots on goal were saved by the Seawolves’ keeper Emily Doherty.
“We need to be better at the start of the match and come out with more intensity,” said UAlbany coach Caitlin Cucchiella. “We were able to create goal-scoring opportunities and lock them into their half, but we need to score goals.”

Alexa Schneider led the team with six shots while Vivian Vega had four and Leanne Miller and Allison Carhart each contributed three.  Alana Brennan had the loss in goal with a save in 69:19.  Alana Olivieri finished the game with a save.

For Stony Brook, Raven Edwards had the eventual game-winner in the 7^th minute from Kaitlin Loughren, with Emily Murrer adding the insurance goal in the 61^st.  Dohery got the victory with the shutout.

As Stony Brook cleared the ball away from defense in the 7^th minute, Loughren kicked to a streaking Edwards in the center of the UAlbany back line.  Edwards got free and fired from 20 yards out, scoring below the crossbar for a 1-0 Stony Brook lead.

In minute 11, Schneider took the ball away from a defender and went to the box, turning and shooting as a defender blocked the ball out of bounds.  The corner went back to Schneider, who headed the ball towards the middle of the cage with the keeper catching the ball.

The other way, Stony Brook nearly got a second goal on a counter as Edwards got space outside the box on the left, going for the right post on the shot and slamming the top corner.

Schneider kept forcing the action, taking the ball towards the endline just inside the box.  With the narrow angle, Schneider kicked a laser and hit the inside of the opposite post.  The ball stayed along the goal line and did not cross before the keeper grabbed it.

The 30^th minute saw UAlbany take a free kick from Caitlyn Paltsios from about 40 yards out.  UAlbany connected three passes to Vega to the penalty box for the open shot, with Vega kicking the ball high.

Miller received a pass from Schneider on the far side outside the box in the 38^th minute.  Miller approached the corner and tried for the left post, being stopped by the keeper.  Stony Brook attacked with a counter as Tessa Devereaux got a deflected ball from 25 yards out, going for a long shot and missing high.  The two sides went into the half with Stony Brook leading 1-0.

UAlbany looked to go after the center of Stony Brook’s back line on fast attacks.  Carhart had the first look on a turnaround ground shot from far away, missing left.

Stony Brook got its second goal in the 61^st minute as the ball came towards a scrum in the box.  Murrer got a foot on it and tapped it above Brennan and into the net for the goal to make it 2-0 Seawolves.

Four minutes later, UAlbany nearly got its first goal as Fitzpatrick sent the ball towards the goal box.  Schneider pulled off the keeper for the header to Vega.  Vega headed the ball from 10 yards out as Doherty got back to grab the attempt.

UAlbany put more forwards in the game to try to come back in the game.  One such chance occurred in the 75^th minute as Meghan Malone drilled a ball from 15 yards out, again with Doherty stopping it.

In minute 82, Schneider pounded a line drive towards the right post, with a diving Doherty punching the ball out of bounds.  Schneider got a second chance on the corner with a header, pushing the ball left.  UAlbany did not get another shot on goal and fell to Stony Brook 2-0.

UAlbany will have the weekend off and will play its next game at Tom and Mary Casey Stadium next Thursday, October 15th, taking on Hartford at 7 p.m.

Cobleskill Falls to 1-10 Overall on Season With Shutout Loss to Panthers

Albany, New York - The SUNY Cobleskill women's soccer team took to the road on Thursday afternoon to face the Panthers of Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in non-league action. The visiting Fighting Tigers ended up on the losing end of a 9-0 tally to the home squad. With the defeat the Cobleskill record falls to 1-9 overall on the season while the host Panthers improve to 9-3 overall on the year.

Sophomore goalkeeper Sabrina Adams, Oswego, N.Y., Mexico High School, did make a career high of 27 saves in net for the Orange & Black in defeat on the afternoon.

Cobleskill will next be in action on Saturday October 10^th when they return to North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action versus host SUNY Polytechnic Institute in league action beginning at 2:00 p.m. 

UAlbany Women’s Soccer Heads to Long Island to Take on SUNY Rival Stony Brook on Thursday

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The UAlbany women’s soccer team will look to finish up its road swing with a victory on Thursday night on Long Island, taking on SUNY rival Stony Brook on October 8th at 7 p.m. at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium.

The game will be streamed online for free at AmericaEast.tv.

UAlbany has won three out of the last four games against Stony Brook but trails in the overall series 12-5 to the Seawolves.  The two met last season at Bob Ford Field, with the Great Danes scoring two goals in a span of seven minutes and holding off Stony Brook for a 2-1 victory.

UAlbany is playing its third of four conference games on the road on Thursday, coming off a 1-0 defeat at New Hampshire on Sunday to snap a three-game unbeaten streak.  The Great Danes enter this game at 6-6-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the America East.  Stony Brook will have its conference home opener on Thursday after playing its first two league games, each losses, on the road, the last a 1-0 defeat at Hartford last week, going into this contest at 3-7-2 overall and 0-2-0 in the America East.

UAlbany is currently the second-highest goal-scoring team in the America East with 21.  Vivian Vega is tied for second in the league with six goals while Alexa Schneider is tied for fifth with five.  Schneider also has a team-high four assists, tied with UAlbany’s all-time leader in assists Krista Fitzpatrick, who has four this year to total 11 in her career.

Alana Brennan, UAlbany’s primary goalkeeper the past four years, is closing in on almost every program record.  She is already the program’s all-time wins leader with 20 and saves leader with 321, plus leads with a 1.67 goals allow average.  She needs one shutout to set the new record at UAlbany, currently standing with 9.5.

Almost half of Stony Brook’s goals and points have been earned by one player: redshirt junior Raven Edwards stands with five goals, including three on penalty kicks, and two assists for 12 points, while sophomore middle Manuela Corcho has two goals.  The Seawolves have split between Emily Doherty and Cara Gallagher in goal.

UAlbany Women’s Soccer’s Three-Game Unbeaten Streak Snapped with 1-0 Loss at UNH

DURHAM, N.H. – Despite a second half blitz where the Great Danes outshot UNH 14-6, the UAlbany women’s soccer team fell on the road 1-0 at New Hampshire, ending the team’s three-game unbeaten streak. 

UAlbany (6-6-1, 1-1-1 AE) outshot New Hampshire (5-5-3, 3-0-0 AE) 17-14 in the game, but could not make up a deficit caused by Brooke Murphy’s 12^th minute goal for the home team.

“Today was a battle, and being away from home is challenging,” said UAlbany head coach Caitlin Cucchiella. “UNH was able to get the better of the play in the first half.  We came out in the second half and were able to control the possession, but we couldn’t get the equalizer. 

Vivian Vega led UAlbany with five shots, including two on goal.  Alana Brennan got the loss with three saves in front of the cage. 

Murphy’s goal, assisted by Kelsey Pratt, was her seventh of the season.  Mimi Borkan picked up the victory in goal with four saves.

UAlbany had its first chance in the eight minute as Caitlyn Paltsios made an attempt on the goal, with Borkan making the save.

In the 11^th minute, Pratt passed to Murphy outside of the penalty box.  Murphy took a shot from long range and scored inside the left post for a 1-0 UNH lead.

On a corner kick by Caroline Murray in the 22^nd minute, UNH took three shots in a span of 12 seconds.  The first two clanged off defenders, the third from Murray missed right.  A fourth shot in the following minute by Murphy was stopped by Brennan.

Vega missed her second attempt of the half left in the 41^st minute.  The two teams went into the half with UNH leading 1-0.

A corner kick from Krista Fitzpatrick gave UAlbany an opportunity in the 63^rd minute.  The ball was sent away to an approaching Caroline Kopp, who kicked the ball towards the net but was blocked.  A second effort by Vega was also blocked.

In the 75^th minute, Allison Carhart nearly netted the equalizer with a good shot, being denied by the post.  Paltsios came up for the second attempt, sending the ball high.

UAlbany kept getting off shots but was unable to connect.  A corner kick in the 88^th minute saw shots by Mariah Williams and Kiana Rugar blocked in succession.  One final chance for UAlbany came in the final minute as Vega took a ground ball shot, with a falling Borkan stopping it.  UAlbany fell to the Wildcats 1-0.

The Great Danes head south to Long Island on Thursday, October 8^th for a 7 p.m. game against Stony Brook.

Morrisville State women roll to NEAC win over St. Elizabeth

MORRISVILLE, New York – Freshman Jillian Hughes (Brookfield, N.Y.) posted a first half hat-trick to lead host Morrisville State College women's soccer to a 8-1 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victory over visiting College of St. Elizabeth Sunday afternoon in Morrisville.
The win lifts the Mustangs to 3-7 overall, 2-4 in NEAC play, while the Eagles remain winless, dropping to 0-9 overall, 0-5 in conference action.

Hughes led the Mustangs with a three goal day, while five additional teammates notched one apiece. Jasmine Wynter (Nedrow, N.Y.), Brianna DelColle (Huntington, N.Y.), and Courtney Cavellier (Rodman, N.Y.) each posted a goal and added an assist for a three point day.

Women's Soccer falls to Penn State-Altoona (1-0)

ALTOONA, PA - The Medaille College Women's Soccer team traveled to Altoona, PA today seeking their first win in their AMCC campaign.

Penn State-Altoona created a number of early chances within the first 10 minutes of the match, but Alea Wade (Hamburg, NY, Frontier) and the Maverick defense proved equal to the task.

Medaille created two opportunities in the first period, but was unable to capitalize.  Kalyn Compeau (Tonawanda, NY, Tonawanda)'s chance in the 18th minute was blocked by a Lions defender.  Michelle Fiore (Tonawanda, NY, Kenmore East)'s attempt in the 29th minute sailed just wide of the goal.

Lakers Close Out Weekend with Victory

OSWEGO, New York – The Oswego State women's soccer team increased its win streak to three on Saturday afternoon, defeating Plattsburgh 2-1 at Laker Soccer Field. With the victory, the Lakers improve to 2-2 in the conference and 7-4 overall. The win also put an end to Plattsburgh's six-game win streak, moving them to 7-3-1 overall (2-1 SUNYAC).

After allowing an early goal to the Cardinals, the Lakers increased its offensive pressure and eventually scored at the 10:18 mark. Alexa Restante intercepted Plattsburgh pass 35 yards out and streaked towards the net with one defender to beat. The sophomore used her speed to bypass the defender and calmly curled the ball around the goalie to earn her second goal of the weekend.

Just 13:31 later, the Lakers were able to find the back of the net again, this time on the foot of Ariah Rosos. Emma Geyer started the play sending a through ball to Rosos from the top of the box. The freshmen was able to toe it under the approaching goalie, scoring the eventual game-winner.

Defense played a key role for the Lakers as they were able to shut down the Cardinals for the entire second half. Plattsburgh was able to beat keeper Melissa Siegfried on a shot, but the ball was stopped and booted off the goal line by Chloe Lonergan, maintaining the Lakers one-goal advantage. Siegfried finished the contest with a total of four saves.

Women's soccer continues its play at 3 p.m. on Friday when it hosts the Fredonia Blue Devils for another SUNYAC matchup.
