Morrisville State swept by Gallaudet in NEAC divisional cross over

WASHINGTON, DC – The Morrisville State College softball team dropped two divisional cross over games to host Gallaudet University Friday afternoon, falling 4-0 in game one, followed by a 4-1 decision in the nightcap, held in Washington, DC.

The loss drops the Mustangs to 3-9 on the season, 0-4 within North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play.

Bailey Dillabough (Massena, N.Y.) and Allyson Kowalczyk (Hinesdale, Mass.) each registered a hit at the plate for the Mustangs, Dillabough going 1-for-3 that included a triple shot to center field, and Kowalczyk a single to short.

Allison McGuire (Gilboa, N.Y.) threw the loss on the mound, pitching the complete game and allowing four earned runs. McGuire collected four strikeouts.

Both teams battled defensively until the bottom of the fifth inning when Gallaudet broke through to put runs up on the board and break the scoreless tie. The Bison collected six straight hits that included a two run single to right center, followed by a two run double to right field, claiming a 4-0 lead.

Morrisville State attempted a rally in the top of the sixth, after Dillabough slammed the triple to center, but that's as close as the Mustangs would get to scoring as the Bison registered the ground out and collected two strikeouts in the top of the seventh to seal the win.

In the nightcap, Gallaudet opened with three runs in the bottom of the first, and added another in the fifth, before the Mustangs were able to cross home.

Amanda Labe (Friedensburg, Pa.) scored Morrisville State's lone run in the top of the sixth inning after reaching on a single, stealing second and reaching home on an error. Labe went 1-for-3 from the plate, as did McGuire and Dillabough, with Dillabough collecting a double to left in the opening evening.

Brooke Terrier (Hubbardsville, N.Y.) threw a complete game for the Mustangs in the loss, allowing two earned runs, while posting a strikeout.

Morrisville State men roll to win over Wells, 26-7

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College men's lacrosse team rolled to a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victory Saturday afternoon as they topped visiting Wells College by a final 26-7 on Drake Field in Morrisville.

The win is the third straight for the Mustangs who improve to 3-0 within conference play, and improve to 4-7 overall on the year. Wells drops to 3-5, 1-2 in NEAC action.

Fifteen different Mustangs collected scores on the afternoon, led by junior Nick Geswaldo (Lafayette, N.Y.) who posted a team high five to go along with two assists. Brad Biggs (Tully, N.Y.) added three, assisting another two.

Dan Sherlock (Tully, N.Y.) recorded the win in net, appearing in the first half of play, before being relieved by Paul Gates (West Winfield, N.Y.) for the second half. Gates made one stop.

Late save seals nail-biting 8-7 win for Mustangs over Canton

CANTON, N.Y. – Visiting Morrisville State College women's lacrosse picked up a thrilling 8-7 victory over non-conference opponent SUNY Canton Tuesday afternoon, improving to 3-6 on the season as they posted their third straight victory.

Marissa Woodard (Unadilla, N.Y.) collected nine saves in the win, including one that came on a shot low from about 5-yards out with under a minute to play to seal with the victory. Six of Woodard's stops were in the first half of action.

Gianna Branca (Camillus, N.Y.) led Morrisville State with five points, netting three scores and assisting two others, while Chelsea McNeal (Ithaca, N.Y.) and Courtney Cavellier (Rodman, N.Y.) each added two goals.

Jillian Hughes (Brookfield, N.Y.) rounded out the Mustang scoring with a goal, the game winner that was put away with 7:21 to go in the contest on the man-up opportunity. Hughes also had an assist, along with Makenzi Santini (Fairport, N.Y.) who connected with Hughes for the winning tally.

Canton drew first blood with a score at the 26:22 mark before Morrisville State rallied for four straight, three by Branca, for a 4-1 lead with two minutes remaining in the opening half.

A final Roo score with 22 ticks to go in the first period sent the game into the halftime break with a 4-2 Mustang lead.

In the second, Morrisville State struck first with a score form McNeal, before the hosts rattled off three straight to even the game at five with just under 20 to go.

McNeal posted her second to give the visitors the one goal edge, and both teams battled back and forth trading scores until the strike by Hughes with just over seven to go, put the Mustangs ahead for a final time.

Canton had three attempts to collect a tying score, but Woodard turned away two of her three total second half stops, and another hit the post.

Morrisville State returns to the field Saturday, resuming conference action as they hit the field against Hilbert College in Houghton. Game time is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start at Houghton College.

Morrisville State men open NEAC play with 9-5 win over Hilbert

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College men's lacrosse team opened North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play Wednesday afternoon, handing visiting Hilbert College a 9-5 loss on Drake Field in Morrisville.

With the win, the Mustangs improve to 2-7 on the season (1-0 in NEAC action). Hilbert drops to 2-3 overall, 0-1 in conference play.

Brad Biggs (Tully, N.Y.) and Peter Pina (Culver City, Calif.) led the Morrisville State all around efforts with two goals apiece, while five additional teammates notched one, including Logan Peters (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) who collected two assists in the win as well.

Senior goalkeeper Dan Sherlock (Tully, N.Y.) made 13 stops to secure the win in net, turning away eight in the second half of action.

Morrisville State dominated at the center X, winning 12-of-18 face-offs, seven from junior Shawn Walberger (Fulton, N.Y.) and another five from freshman Nate McCormick (Cortland, N.Y.). Walberger collected a team high five ground balls.

The Mustangs scored three in the opening quarter and claimed a 3-1 lead heading into the second, as Nick Geswaldo (Lafayette, N.Y.), Biggs and Pina each notched a score for the hosts.

Morrisville State took a three goal lead early on in the second, before the Hawks responded with two straight, cutting the deficit to one, and entered the break trailing 5-4.

Thomas Knapp (Walworth, N.Y.) scored the lone goal of the third to give the hosts the two goal cushion, before Morrisville State rattled off two straight in the fourth to claim the 8-4 lead.

Marc O'Neill posted an unassisted score for Hilbert with 6:15 to go, in an attempt to rally the visitors, but Chris Dovi (Cortland, N.Y.) rifled the final dagger with 4:26 to go to round out all scoring on the day, giving the Mustangs the 9-5 victory.

Morrisville State women dominate in NEAC opener, cruise to 20-5 win

PALMYRA, PA – Visiting Morrisville State College women's lacrosse rolled to a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opening win as they dominated host Lancaster Bible College 20-5 in Palmyra, Pennsylvania, notching their first victory of the 2018 season, and making a statement within conference play.

Senior Gianna Branca (Camillus, N.Y.) posted a career high 16 points in the contest, netting four goals and assisting a record-breaking 12, five alone to junior attack Courtney Cavellier (Rodman, N.Y.) who put away seven goals on the day.

Jillian Hughes (Brookfield, N.Y.) added a hat trick, netting three goals and adding an assist while five additional teammates posted scores on the day.

Marissa Woodard (Unadilla, N.Y.) collected her first collegiate win between the pipes, making nine saves in 51 minutes of action. She also picked up a team high three ground balls, along with Lexi Firkins (Brockport, N.Y.).

Branca and Cavellier combined for nine of the teams 13 draw controls, with Cavellier also contributing three caused turnovers.

Sara Gelster (Hamburg, N.Y.) also appeared in net, making one save in the final nine minutes of action.

Morrisville State outgained the hosts right out of the gate, netting the first six scores within the opening seven minutes of the contest. The Mustangs struck twice within the opening minute, both from Cavellier as Hughes made the connection 33 seconds in and Branca collecting her first assist 25 seconds later off the draw control win.

Lancaster Bible posted two straight to get on the board, but Morrisville State rolled to a 14-2 lead at the break as they put together an 8-0 response to the Chargers tallies.

In the second, the Mustangs continued where they left off, adding to their lead with four additional goals, before rounding out the contest with two more for the commanding 20-5 win.

Early Goal Not Enough as Field Hockey Falls to Houghton 2-1

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Mustangs returned to the field on Tuesday evening for a non-conference night game against the visiting Highlanders from Houghton College.  The Mustangs got on the board first, but could not withstand the Houghton comeback, falling 2-1.

Morrisville and Houghton played neck and neck in the first half.  Both teams tallied 4 penalty corners and the only advantage the Mustangs had was an additional shot.  Solid goalie play by both teams kept the score at zeros for the entire first half of play.

Both teams continued to battle to an even score throughout much of the second half as well.

Elmira College sweeps Morrisville State softball in non-conference action

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College softball team took the field for a double-header against non-conference opponent Elmira College on Thursday afternoon, dropping the first game 15-1 before falling 4-0 in the second.

The decision puts the Mustangs at 6-20 overall. Elmira moves to 9-11 overall.

In the first game of today's action, Elmira scored three times in the first and added two more in the second inning to take a 5-0 lead into the top of the third.

CANTON, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College women's lacrosse team suffered a 15-5 non-conference defeat Wednesday afternoon to SUNY Canton in Canton.

The loss drops the Mustangs to 5-8 overall.

Liz Leva (Hoosick Falls, N.Y.) led the Morrisville State efforts with four goals, all in the second half, while teammate DeeAnna Rammelt (Westfield, N.Y.) posted the other score for the Mustangs on a free position.

Cailin Dunphy (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) recorded 13 saves in the loss for Morrisville State between the pipes, including an eight save effort in the first half of play.

Morrisville State softball suffers heartbreaking road loss at Cobleskill

COBLESKILL, N.Y. – Host SUNY Cobleskill picked up two North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victories Wednesday afternoon as they topped visiting Morrisville State College softball by final scores of 9-7 and 12-11 in the double-header held in Cobleskill.

The Mustangs, who wrapped up their sixth double-header in eight days, fall to 6-18 to date on the season, 2-10 in conference play. They return to the field tomorrow to play a twinbill against non-conference Elmira College.

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Morrisville State softball hit the road for a double-header against North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) North Division opponent Penn College, and struggled as they dropped both contests Friday afternoon in Williamsport.

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College men's soccer team cruised to a 4-0 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) win over visiting Wilson College Saturday afternoon, as they held a benefit game for the Upstate Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in Morrisville.
The win lifts Morrisville State to 8-3-2, 7-1-1 in conference play. Wilson dropped to 2-8-1 overall, 2-5-1 in NEAC action.

Jamieson McKoy (Bronx, N.Y.) notched two to lead the Mustangs in the conference win, including the first tally at the 26 minute mark, a rebound off the initial post shot by Alan Peckham (Webster, N.Y.).

Peckham extended the Morrisville State lead to two at 33:16, notching an unassisted tally on the header after a Wilson defender made the team stop.

Julian Rodriguez (Bronx, N.Y.)  made it a 3-0 game in favor of the hosts minutes before the half, weaving through defenders into the box, firing the ball inside the right post for the score.

The lone score of the second half came in the 58^th minute, as McKoy juked the goalie to post his second of the day.

Rob Larkin (Clinton, N.Y.) recorded the win, despite not facing a shot in the first half before being replaced by Eric Berglund (Elmira, N.Y.) for the first 26 minutes of the second. Berglund posted no saves as well. Cody Gaines (Hoosick Falls, N.Y.) registered three stops in the final 19 minutes of play.

Morrisville State held the visitors to just eight shots on the day, as Wilson keeper Michael Martin recorded four stops, with his defense adding three team stops in the efforts.

The Mustangs return to the field Sunday, hosting Gallaudet University at 11 a.m. for Senior Day celebrations.

Field Hockey Shut Out by New Paltz

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State field hockey team dropped a 5-0 SUNYAC decision Saturday evening against New Paltz St.

New Paltz opened the scoring six minutes into the first half when Kayla McKeveny drilled a shot from 5 yards out from a pass from Jessica Caruana. The Hawks continued to pressure the Morrisville defense, but Liz Leva (Hoosick Falls, N.Y.) came up big on several occasions, including making a critical stop on a stroke with 13:40 left in the first half.

Morrisville came within inches of tying the game up with thirty seconds left in the first half. Lauren Kellum (Morrisville, N.Y.) drove a rocket of a shot but it was called off by the official for being taken just outside of the circle.

After an astounding defensive effort by the Mustangs in the first half, New Paltz began to find their way through the Morrisville defense in the second half. McKeveny struck first for the Hawks eight minutes into the second half for an unassisted goal and a 2-0 New Paltz lead. Justine O'Reilly found the back of the cage for a 3-0 Hawks advantage in the 51^st minute.

New Paltz extended their lead in the 54^th minute when McKeveny picked up the hat trick by driving a long shot from the top of the circle. The Hawks picked up their fifth goal of the game off of the stick of Rachel McLaughlin who drilled home a five yarder. Jill Eggers picked up the assist on the play.

Leva ended the game with 26 saves, while Kat Kilmer (Walton, N.Y.) picked up two defensive saves and Nicole Griener (Eden, N.Y.) picked up one.

The Mustangs head out on the road to wrap up their SUNYAC schedule on Wednesday, October 21 at Oneonta St. at 4 PM. Morrisville will end their regular season at home on Sunday, October 25 at noon against Wilson College.

Morrisville State withstands Hartwick comeback attempt, tops Hawks 31-28

ONEONTA, N.Y. – Visiting Morrisville State College football withstood a third quarter rally and fourth quarter comeback attempt by host Hartwick College Saturday afternoon, claiming the 31-28 Empire 8 victory on Wright Field in Oneonta.

The win is the second straight over the Hawks, as Morrisville State pulls their record even at 3-3, 2-3 in conference action. Hartwick drops to 2-4, and has yet to notch one in the conference win column, falling to 0-4.

Morrisville State generated 423 yards total offense on the day, including 225 yards passing as Cory Benedetto (Rochester, N.Y.) completed 13-of-31 passes for three touchdowns. Benedetto connected with senior Anthony Gray (Smallwood, N.Y.) twice for 70 yards and a score, as fellow senior Anthony Mella (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added three receptions for a total 63 yards on the day.

Morrisville State women post thrilling 2OT win over Wilson

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Host Morrisville State College women's soccer posted a thrilling double overtime North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) win over visiting Wilson College Saturday afternoon in Morrisville.

The win boosts the Mustangs to 4-9 overall, 3-6 in NEAC action. Wilson drops to 2-8-1 overall, 1-7 in conference play.

Morrisville State had the chance to get on the board in the first half, but a Jasmine Wynter (Nedrow, N.Y.) shot was saved by the fingertips of Wilson keeper Brianna Martin to keep the hosts off the board.

Both teams remained scoreless in the second half, but not without a Wilson last second shot that ricocheted off the right post with two seconds remaining in a one versus Mustang goalkeeper opportunity.

Morrisville State put one in the back of the net three minutes into the first overtime period, but the goal was called off as the Mustangs were whistled offside.

With time winding down in the second overtime period, Celia Abbott (Shortsville, N.Y.) lined up for a corner kick and sent the ball into the box to a waiting Cavellier who one-timed the ball into the net for the game winning score with 1:18 remaining on the clock.

Morrisville State men stunned in overtime, fall 2-1 to Wells

AURORA, N.Y. – Visiting Morrisville State College men's soccer suffered a 2-1 double overtime setback Wednesday afternoon, falling in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action to host Wells College in Aurora.

The loss is the first for Morrisville State in 18 conference contests, dating back to Sept. 13, 2014, as they fall to 7-3-2 overall, 6-1-1 in NEAC play. Wells College ups their record to 8-5 overall, 5-2 in conference action.

Wells posted the first tally of the contest in the 11^th minute, heading the ball past Morrisville State goalkeeper Rob Larkin (Clinton, N.Y.) for the first tally of the contest, and 1-0 lead.

The Mustangs posted the equalizer in the 38^th minute, as Jeffrey Hado (Tema, Ghana) found Chernor Barrie (Bronx, N.Y.) on the left post to send the contest into the break tied at one.

Morrisville State had plenty of chances in the second half, including a shot that hit the post, but were unable to capitalize on their seven shots as both teams headed into the extra frame.

After a scoreless first overtime period, Wells registered the lone shot in the second extra frame, one that came in the 109^th minute as Jack Pilgrim posted his second tally of the afternoon, a header off a corner feed for the win.

Morrisville State held the 19-9 advantage in shots on the day.

Larkin finished the contest with three saves in the loss.

Field Hockey Falls to Oswego State, 6-2

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Morrisville Field Hockey dropped a SUNYAC decision at home on Tuesday afternoon, losing 6-2 to visiting Oswego State.

The Mustangs asserted their presence early taking an early 1-0 lead as Allyson Flurer (Kunkletown, Pa.) drove past the Oswego defense and curled her shot around the Laker's keeper and into the left corner of the cage.

The Lakers responded seven minutes later notching a goal of their own when Jordan Sheehy took a deflected pass from Grace Rinaldi. Oswego soon took a 2-1 advantage when Lisa O'Callaghan took a pass from Emily Lange right in front of the Mustangs' keeper, Liz Leva (Hoosick Falls, N.Y.), and hooked a backhand shot into the right corner.

Morrisville pulled even with five and a half minutes left in the first half. After an excellent clear by the Mustangs, Sandy Clark (Morrisville, N.Y.) looked ahead and found Lauren Kellum (Morrisville, N.Y.) who blew past the Laker defense for a breakaway goal. The score would remain knotted, 2-2 at the end of the first half.

Oswego struck first in the second half two minutes into play when O'Callaghan blasted a rebound off of the pads of Leva for a 3-2 lead and her second goal of the game. O'Callaghan found the back of the cage again for a hat-trick, ten minutes into the second half to extend their lead to 4-2.

The Lakers kept the pressure on and extended their lead again less than a minute later when Lange took her own rebound and pushed it past Leva and just inside the left post. The score would remain 5-2 in favor of Oswego until 50 seconds left in the half, when Lacey Woite put the Mustangs away for good picking up the sixth and final goal of the game for Oswego for a 6-2, Laker win.

The Mustangs will remain at home for their next game on Saturday evening as they face another SUNYAC opponent, New Paltz at 5:30 PM.

Mustang men’s soccer plays to one goal draw with Abington

ABINGTON, Pa. – Visiting Morrisville State College men's soccer played to a one goal draw with host Penn State Abington Sunday afternoon, netting a late game score for the tie.

The draw lands Morrisville State with a 7-2-2 overall record, 6-0-1 within North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play.

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – Visiting Morrisville State College men's soccer posted a 3-0 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) road win Saturday afternoon, topping host Bryn Athyn College in conference play.

The win boosts the Mustangs to 7-2-1 overall, 6-0 within the NEAC, while the hosts drop to 6-1 overall, 2-4-1 in conference play.

Morrisville State posted all three tallies in the first half, the first and eventual game winner on an unassisted tally from senior captain Danny Peckham (Webster, N.Y.) just five minutes in.

Morrisville State added to their lead in the 23^rd minute, as Julian Rodriguez (Bronx, N.Y.) put the ball away off a feed from Chernor Barrie (Bronx, N.Y.).

Accele Rando (Thailand) sealed the win for the Mustangs with an unassisted tally at the 39:06 mark in the first half.

Eric Berglund (Elmira, N.Y.) posted the win in net, turning away one in 74 minutes of action before Cody Gaines (Hoosick Falls, N.Y.) closed out the final 16 minutes.

The Mustangs return to the field Sunday, playing host Penn St. Abington at noon.
