Morrisville State women roll to NEAC win over St. Elizabeth

MORRISVILLE, New York – Freshman Jillian Hughes (Brookfield, N.Y.) posted a first half hat-trick to lead host Morrisville State College women's soccer to a 8-1 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victory over visiting College of St. Elizabeth Sunday afternoon in Morrisville.
The win lifts the Mustangs to 3-7 overall, 2-4 in NEAC play, while the Eagles remain winless, dropping to 0-9 overall, 0-5 in conference action.

Hughes led the Mustangs with a three goal day, while five additional teammates notched one apiece. Jasmine Wynter (Nedrow, N.Y.), Brianna DelColle (Huntington, N.Y.), and Courtney Cavellier (Rodman, N.Y.) each posted a goal and added an assist for a three point day.

Morrisville State took an early 1-0 lead just six minutes into the contest as DelColle had the scoring
strike from about 35 yards out in the center of the field off a feed from Cavellier. Within three minutes, the lead increased to two, as Hughes put home the rebound off a Wynter shot that ricocheted off the left post in the 10th minute.

Cavellier notched the third Mustang goal in the 16th minute, putting strike in the back of the net off a thru ball from DelColle from about 25 yards out.

Hughes posted back-to-back tallies in less than two minutes time, collecting the rebound off the goalie save in the 19th minute, and then posting her third score for the hat trick in the 21st minute on the strike within the six-meter box on a dish from Sara Murphy (Oriskany, N.Y.).

St. Elizabeth was able to get on the board before the end of the half, as Roxi Luna put the ball past Mustang keeper Emily Sisson (Windsor, N.Y.) on a feed from Paola Manuel with seven minutes to go in the half.

Morrisville State picked up where they left off early in the second half, posting their sixth tally of the day off the foot of Kelly Brennan (Sauquoit, N.Y.) who collected the score inside the left post.
Celia Abbott (Shortsville, N.Y.) and Wynter rounded out Mustang scoring in the 62nd and 70th minute, each notching a tally. Abbott's was a left foot strike from about 15 meters out on the left side of the box, and Wynter's came from about 10 meters out inside the left post.
Sisson collected the win in net for Morrisville State.

Mariah Lavornia registered the loss for the Eagles, making 10 stops.

Morrisville State returns to the field Sunday, Oct. 11, traveling to Penn St. Abington for a 2 p.m. NEAC kick-off.
