Men's Lacrosse Falls To Oswego State In Non-Conference Action

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College men's lacrosse team traveled to Oswego, N.Y. on Saturday afternoon for a non-conference battle with Oswego State. The Cardinals fell to the Lakers 13-7 and fell to 4-2 overall on the year, while Oswego improved to 3-1 overall.

Fisher was the first team up on the scoreboard in the first half as Chance Gates tallied his fifth of the season with Zach Wagner picking up the assists six minutes into the game. Gates notched his second of the game just a minute and a half after his first goal, this time assisted by Andrew Rosso. Rosso then followed up his assist with a goal of his own at the 9:58 mark of a fee from Domenic Delevecchio.
Oswego tallied its first of the quarter at the 4:37 mark, until Gates scored his hat-trick goal under two minutes later on the man-up advantage to put the Cardinals back up three goals. Zach Wagner also picked up his second assist of the afternoon.

The field was flipped however in the second quarter, the Lakers tallied five goals in the first 10 minutes of the quarter to re-gain the lead 6-4. Before the halftime horn sounded, Nicholas Miller brought the Cardinals back within one as Oswego carried a 6-5 lead into the halftime break.

Much of the third quarter was a defensive battle, with both teams trying to gain the momentum moving forward. The Lakers however were first to break the second half deadlock and increase their lead to 8-5 with the only two goals of the third quarter.

Oswego was able to increase their lead 12-5 within the first 10 minutes of the final quarter. Fisher's comeback efforts were started by a TJ VanDeusen goal and Roger Panara assist with a little under four minutes remaining. That was followed by Rosso's second of the game and team-leading 16th of the season from Miller to cut the Oswego lead to 12-7. However, the Lakers tallied the final goal of the game with 1:28 remaking till the final whistle.

Goalkeeper Justin Townsend again played all 60 minutes in net for the Cardinals. The senior finished with 10 saves in the game and now holds a 4-2 record in 2018. Joe Post was able to finish 14-24 inside the face off circle adding a team-high eight ground balls. 

The Cardinals are back in action on Wednesday for another non-conference matchup, when the team hosts The College of Wooster at Growney Stadium at a scheduled start time of 4 p.m.
