Orange Comeback Not Enough at Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill. – No. 10/12 Syracuse's attempt to come back from a five-goal second-half deficit came up short as No. 13/11 Northwestern defeated the Orange, 14-10, in Evanston, Ill. on Monday, March 26.

Junior Nicole Levy led the Syracuse offense with four goals and an assist for five points. It marks the second consecutive game in which Levy has scored four goals. She has 14 goals in her last four games and leads the squad in points (34) and is second in goals (27). Sheila Nesselbush had five goals and six assists to lead Northwestern.

HOW IT WAS DECIDED
Syracuse (6-4) tallied the first three goals of the game to jump out to an early lead. Freshman Sam Swart started the scoring when she found the back of the net off an assist from senior Riley Donahue. Levy then recorded back-to-back goals, the first on an assist from sophomore Emily Hawryschuk and the second on a feed from redshirt senior Taylor Gait to put the Orange up 3-0.

The Wildcats took advantage of an Orange yellow card when Holly Korn found the back of the net at the 16:38 mark. Jill Girardi converted a free-position attempt to cut Syracuse's advantage to one, but Levy answered with her third goal to give the Orange a 4-2 advantage.

Nesselbush scored her first goal of the day at the 3:31 mark to spark Northwestern (7-3) on a 3-0 scoring run to end the half. Her free-position goal with nine seconds on the clock gave the Wildcats a 5-4 halftime lead.

Levy's fourth goal of the day tied it at 5-5, but Northwestern scored five straight goals to take a 10-5 lead with 15:27 remaining. The Orange twice cut the Wildcats' lead to three, but could get no closer.

OF NOTE
Sophomore goalkeeper Asa Goldstock made 10 saves for the Orange. She has now reached double figures in saves in three consecutive games. Hawryschuk had four points on two goals and a career-high two assists. She continues to lead the team in goals (28) and is second in points (32).
