Clermont, FL— Sage's softball team returned to action on Monday and collected a 6-4 win over Newbury College in the morning match-up but fell to Juniata College in the second game of the day, 20-1.
In the 6-4 win over Newbury, Sage came from behind in the bottom of the bottom of the fourth inning as they scored five runs and took a 6-3 lead through five innings.
Sage's junior pitcher Alicia Swavely (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) led off the inning with a
single before junior Brittany Brooks reached on an error in center field. With one out, freshman Ashlee Billert (Bennington, VT/Mt. Anthony Union) had an RBI single to drive in pinch runner Mikayla Culnan, who pinch ran for Brooks.
Junior Amanda Kiriakos (Yonkers, NY/Saunders Trade & Technical) had a two RBI double before graduate player, Lisa Kentris (Latham, NY/Shaker) had an RBI single before sophomore Emily Agate (Franklin Square, NY/H. Frank Carey) tacked on the Gators' fifth run of the inning, giving Sage a 6-3 lead through five innings.
For the game, Kiriakos was 4/4 with two RBI's, a double, a run scored and a stolen base.
In the night cap, Juniata posted the 20-1 win in five innings. Sage jumped out to a 1-0 lead as senior infielder Kiersten Duncan (Millerton, NY/Taconic Hills) collected her fifth double of the year and was 2-3 at the plate. She drove in Kentris, who singled in her first at bat.
Duncan now has 38 career doubles and is 4th on the Gator career double list led by Hillary Faas, who added 44 doubles during her time at Sage.
Juniata answered back with 11 runs on the bottom of the inning and went on to collect the win to improve to 1-1 on the year. Sage drops to 1-5 on the season and will be back in action on Tuesday taking on
Sage is back in action on March 12 taking on Wisconsin-Lutheran at 9:45 a.m. and Washington & Jefferson College at noon.
