Clermont, FL— Sage's softball team returned to action on Saturday on the second day of the Gators' Spring Training trip in Florida. Sage dropped the first contest of the day to Husson University, 8-1. The Gators fell in the nightcap to the Royals of the University of Scranton, 8-6.
Against Husson, senior infielder Kiersten Duncan (Millerton, NY/Taconic Hills) added her third double in her third game of the year and is now tied for fifth in career doubles with 36. She is tied with Kellie Jones and Alexa Silk thus far on the season.
Graduate performer, outfielder Lisa Kentris (Latham, NY/Shaker) was 2-3 at the plate, while
freshman Rookie pitcher Taylor Dicranian (Bennington, VT/Mt. Anthony Union) was 2-3 at the plate with a run scored. She took the loss (0-2) after working 2 innings with3 earned runs off 6 hits with a walk and a strikeout. She was replaced by sophomore pitcher Katerina Lagace (Newington, CT/Newington) who worked 4 innings with 2 earned runs off of 7 hits with a pair of strikeouts.
Senior outfielder Lindsey Decker (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) fueled the comeback effort with a three RBI home run in the top of the sixth. The Alverno Inferno answered back with a single run in the bottom of the sixth to take a 10-9 lead. The Gators tied it up in the top of the seventh with an unearned run from junior Destiny Wierzbicki (Albany, NY/Troy) to knot play at 10-10. Rookie Alex Henniger (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) had an RBI single to score Decker and give Sage an 11-10 lead headed to the bottom of the seventh.
Decker was 4-6 at the plate with four RBI, a home run and scored a pair of runs. Junior Amanda Kiriakos (Yonkers, NY/Saunders Trade & Technical) was also 4 for 6 at the plate with an RBI and a double.
Sophomore Emily Agate (Franklin Square, NY/H. Frank Carey) picked up a pair of doubles for Sage, while senior Kiersten Duncan (Millerton, NY/Taconic Hills) added her 34th career double making her tied for the No. 7 spot with former Gator, Meghan Welcome (34).
In the circle for Sage, junior pitcher Alicia Swavely (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) worked four innings with
Rookie Ashlee Billert (Bennington, VT/Mount Anthony Union) was 2-2 at the plate as the Gators were held to seven hits in the game.
Against Scranton, Sage fell behind after the Royal tacked on three runs in the bottom of the first and five in the bottom of the third. Sage battled back adding a pair in the top of the fourth as Duncan added another double for an RBI and Dicranian also had an RBI to drive in Duncan. Kiriakos scored in the top of the fifth to cut Scranton's lead before Decker had Kiriakos each drove in a pair in the top of the sixth as the Gators scored three runs to cut the lead to just two but could not tie the action. For the game, Kiriakos was 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored, while Agate was 2-2 with an RBI.
In the circle, rookie Victoria Alvord (Greenfield Center, NY/Saratoga Central Catholic) started but got the loss after allowing 7 runs off 6 hits. Swavely worked 4 innings scattering 4 hits with one run allowed.
