CBS News will stream a one-hour holiday special this week titled ON THE ROAD WITH STEVE HARTMAN: HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS, featuring heartwarming and inspiring stories from CBS News correspondent Steve Hartman’s popular and award-winning “On the Road” series. The special will look back at Hartman’s illuminating interviews and moving stories about people he met across America in 2021 starting today, Dec. 22.

ON THE ROAD WITH STEVE HARTMAN: HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS will be available to stream on demand today, beginning at 12:00 PM, ET, on

the CBS News YouTube page, CBSNews.com, Paramount+ and the CBS News app. The special will be streamed Thursday, Dec. 23 on CBSN, CBS News 24/7 streaming news service.

The special will draw from Hartman’s poignant collection of interviews and stories that aired this year on the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH NORAH O’DONNELL (6:30-7:00 PM, ET). In his weekly segments for the broadcast, Hartman brings viewers uplifting tales about the ordinary people he encounters doing extraordinary things or random acts of kindness and the special places he visits “On the Road.” This extended streaming special is the latest example of CBS News offering multiplatform journalism that features unrivaled storytelling to challenge, inspire and delight audiences.

“Though this year might be best remembered for sorrow and hardship, there were also tales of hope and joy. Those are the stories we’re drawn to and are eager to share more of in this special,” Hartman said. “We thought given how difficult this year has been for so many people, it would be the perfect time to highlight the good news out there that maybe didn’t get quite as much coverage.”

The hour will focus on themes of family, friendship, community service, the military and senior citizens. One story featured is Hartman’s widely seen story of “Dads on Duty” in Shreveport, La., about fathers who teamed up to offer a positive presence in the hallways of their children’s high school after dozens of students were arrested for fighting. The story of their success went viral, with over 50 million views and sparked conversation across the country, including praise from celebrities like Will Smith, Viola Davis, Susan Sarandon and Jane Lynch. Since the story aired, dozens of school districts around the country have started their own chapters of “Dads on Duty,” in hopes of replicating their results.

“On the Road” is modeled after the long-running series started by legendary CBS News newsman Charles Kuralt. CBS News revived the storied franchise in 2011 with Hartman at the helm, featuring stories from across America that highlight the best among us. Hartman has won numerous awards for his work at CBS News, but most recently was recognized with an Emmy in 2020 for Outstanding Writing for “On the Road.”
