Hobart soccer cruises to 4-0 win at Nazareth

Seven members of the Hobart College soccer team logged a point in a 4-0 win over Nazareth College in a non-league game played in Rochester, N.Y., this afternoon. The Statesmen improve to 7-2-2 overall, and the Golden Flyers fall to 0-12-0.

In the 19th minute, first-year Zach Poretz put Hobart on the board with his third goal of the season. It came off an assist from senior Tyler Terens. The Statesmen added three more goals in the second half. In the 59th minute, junior JP White notched his third goal of the year. First-year Mitch Palmer registered his first collegiate goal in the 68th minute after a feed from classmate Alex Weisbein. First-year Mouhamed Diouf logged the final goal of the game in the 72nd minute after a pass from junior Sean Barry. It was also Diouf's first goal as a Statesman.

Senior goalkeeper Tyler Serafine played the opening 71:42 and stopped the lone shot he faced. Sophomore Morgan Sawyer came in for the final 18:18 and also made one save. It was Hobart's sixth shutout of the year. Alex McLean started in goal for the Golden Flyers and made three saves in 66:48. Nate Ripic came in for the final 23:12 and stopped one shot.

Hobart finished with a 21-5 advantage in shots and a 5-0 lead in corners.

The Statesmen will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 10, when they host No. 24 St. Lawrence in a Liberty League match at 3 p.m.
