Women's Cross Country Takes Mike Woods Invitational Crown

MT. MORRIS, New York - SUNY Geneseo first-year Olivia Ryan finished fifth to lead the Knights to first place out of 32 teams at the 35th-Annual Mike Woods Cross Country Invitational at the Letchworth State Park High Banks Recreation Area course, Saturday.

Geneseo, which was ranked sixth in this week's national poll, totaled a winning score of 56 points to out-distance runner-up St. Lawrence (118), RIT (130), RPI (130) and Dickinson (140) in the top-five. St. Lawrence entered the week ranked seventh, while RIT was 21st and RPI was 27th. Elizabethtown, which was ranked 18th, placed sixth (174).

The team title was the 22nd for Geneseo, and its 11th-straight.

St. Lawrence swept the top-two spots as sophomore Megan Kellogg won the individual championship with a time of 21:34.5, just over 15 seconds ahead of junior teammate Lisa Grohn (21:49.9).

Geneseo graduate Cassie Goodman '15 crossed the finish line third (21:53.1), before RIT junior Emma Jones ended up fourth (21:53.5).

Ryan was close behind in fifth (21:56.1), ahead of Geneseo junior Sara Rosenzweig in ninth (22:06.2) and first-year Elise Ramirez in 14th (22:15.14). Juniors Marissa Cossaro (22:16.9) and Marissa Bellusci (22:25.5) finished in 16th and 17th, respectively, as the Knights were the first to have five finishers.

Geneseo senior Ashton Hughes (22:34.1) ended up 24th, while sophomore Kristen Homeyer was 26th (22:35.9) to round out the Knights' top-seven.

Geneseo will will be back in action on Oct. 7, check schedule, at the Rowan Inter-Regional Rumble in New Jersey.
