Men's Cross Country Wins Mike Woods Invitational Championship

MT. MORRIS, New York - SUNY Geneseo sophomore Isaac Garcia-Cassani finished second to lead the Knights to first place out of 38 teams at the 35th-Annual Mike Woods Cross Country Invitational at the Letchworth State Park High Banks Recreation Area course, Saturday.

Geneseo, which was ranked eighth in this week's national poll, totaled a winning score of 42 points to out-distance runner-up St. Lawrence (103), RPI (203), Hamilton (210) and Rowan (217) in the top-five. St. Lawrence entered the week ranked ahead of the Knights in sixth, while Dickinson was 23rd and RPI was 30th.

The team title was the 18th for Geneseo, and its eighth-straight.

RPI junior Benjamin Fazio won the individual championship with a time of 24:46.6, pulling away from Garcia-Cassani (24:53.1) and St. Lawrence junior Thomas Caulfield (24:57.8) over the last mile to earn the victory.

Geneseo junior Alfredo Mazzuca placed fourth (25:10.8), edging Geneseo alumni Tim Chichester '10 (25:11.3) in fifth.

Knights' junior John Panus logged a top-10 finish, crossing the finish line ninth (25:23.4), before junior Alex Kramer (25:26.6) and senior Sean Fischer (25:27.2) closed out Geneseo's top-five in 13th and 14th, respectively.

Senior Brendan Wortner (25:28.5) and junior Travis Briggs (25:29.3) completed a tight Knights' pack finishing in 15th and 16th, respectively, to close out the squad's top-seven.

Geneseo will will be back in action on Sept. 17 at the Rowan Inter-Regional Rumble in New Jersey.
