Field Hockey Downs Keuka 5-2

MORRISVILLE, New York – The Mustang field hockey team picked up their second win of the season on Saturday afternoon as they downed Keuka 5-2 at home.

The Mustangs opened the scoring early picking up three goals in five minutes. Lauren Kellum (Morrisville, N.Y.) drilled a stick-stop shot from Meghan Holcomb's (Hamilton, N.Y.) penalty corner insert, two minutes into the game. Two minutes later, Allyson Flurer (Kunkletown, Pa.) took a pass from Sandy Clark (Morrisville, N.Y.) and slipped it just past the Wolfpack's goalies pads and into the left corner of the cage. Kellum then picked up her second goal of the game taking her own deflected shot and driving it into the back of the cage.

Keuka responded quickly, picking up a goal of their own in the sixth minute of play. Alyssa Orsino
took a sweep off a penalty corner and squeezed it between the right post and the outstretched left leg of Mustang goalkeeper, Liz Leva (Hoosick Falls, N.Y.). The Wolfpack struck again in the 20th minute as Ashley D'Amore took a breakaway shot from five yards out.

Morrisville extended their lead late in the first half. Kellum picked up the hat trick as she once again drilled a shot from the top of the circle after a penalty corner insert from Holcomb making the score 4-2. Clark got into the scoring action with two minutes left in the first half with a shot off of a rebound, making the score at the end of the half 5-2 in favor of the Mustangs.

The scoring in the second half came to a screeching halt as both teams struggled to find the cage. Both teams had several opportunities but all were denied as both defenses tightened up.

Morrisville hits the road for a non-conference matchup against Houghton on Tuesday night at 6 PM.
