Cobleskill, New York - Looking to pull off an upset over visiting
North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) rival Penn State Abington on
Sunday afternoon the SUNY Cobleskill men's soccer team came up just
short losing in overtime by a 2-1 margin at the Soccer/Lacrosse Complex.
With the loss the Fighting Tigers fall to 0-9 on the year including a
0-5 mark in league play while the Nittany Lions improve to 6-4 overall
with a 4-2 NEAC record.
Trailing 1-0 late in the second half, Cobleskill evened the contest in the 81st minute when sophomore forward David Vosatka, Schenevus, N.Y., Schenevus High School, converted off a corner kick off the foot of freshman midfielder Andrew Potter, Truxton, N.Y., Homer High School, to tie the contest at 1-1.
The
Fighting Tigers had a pair of excellent opportunities to win in the
final minute of play but
Nittany Lion sophomore midfielder Tom Vessels,
Abington, Pa., Abington High School, made a spectacular play on the goal
line to prevent a score with 47 seconds remaining followed by freshman
reserve goalie Arjol Shpuza, Philadelphia, Pa., Swenson High School,
coming up with an acrobatic save with 10 seconds remaining in regulation
to save the game for the visitors.
In the extra period Abington
junior forward Richard Domico, Doylestown, Pa. Central Bucks West High
School, converted on a loose ball in front of the Cobleskill net in the
95th minute to secure the win for the Nittany Lions.
The Orange & Black received a stellar effort in net from freshman goalie Tanner Puff, Wallkill, N.Y., Wallkill High School, who made 11 saves on the afternoon.
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Tuesday October 6th when they host the Mountaineers of Southern Vermont College in non-league action with kick-off set for 4:00 p.m.
