Murphy Collects 1,000 Digs, Mustangs Split at Hartwick Tourney

MORRISVILLE, New York – Morrisville State Senior Libero, Kylie Murphy (Nichols, N.Y.) entered the second day of the Hartwick Tournament five digs away from 1,000 for her career. Murphy reached that milestone as she collected 10 digs in the Mustangs' first match against Coast Guard.

Morrisville unfortunately dropped their match against Coast Guard, 3-0 but they bounced back in their final match of the day to pick up a 3-2 win over the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA).

Coast Guard put away 34 kills in the opening match to put away the Mustangs. Offensively, Courtney LaVere (Oswego, N.Y.), Emilee Niejadlick (Hamburg, N.Y.), and Kim Dunkleman (Williamsville, N.Y.) posted 3 kills apiece for Morrisville.

In the second match, Morrisville faced off against MCLA in a rematch of their opening match of the year. The Mustangs dropped the first meeting at their home tournament, but turned the tables on the Trailblazers this time around.

Morrisville was propelled to the win by the 10 kill effort from Niejadlick, was also named to the Hartwick College Holiday Inn All-Tournament Team. LaVere tacked on 8 kills, while Alison Brockway (Westmoreland, N.Y.) added 6. The Mustangs were stellar with their defense, recording 103 total digs and 10.5 team blocks. Brockway came up big with 3 solo blocks, while Murphy and Dunkleman recorded 29 and 21 digs respectively.

The Mustangs will return home for Senior Night on Tuesday night for their final home match of the season. Morrisville will face off against the Hartwick College Hawks at 7 PM.
