Harmon, Soto named Mustang Athletes of the Week

MORRISVILLE, New York – The Morrisville State College athletic department has announced its weekly award winners for the week ending September 27, selecting cross country’s Laura Harmon (Millford, N.Y.) and football’s Edwin Soto (Liberty, N.Y.) as the Mustang Athletes of the Week.
Harmon posted a personal best 5K time at the Harry S. Anderson Invitational hosted by Roberts Wesleyan College on Saturday, crossing the finish line with a time of 20:49.1.

Her time averaged a mile pace time of 6:43, and landed her in 66th scoring position overall among the field of 205 runners. Harmon was the first to score for Morrisville State, leading the team to a 16th overall finish at the 21 team event.

A graduate of Cooperstown High, Harmon is majoring in nursing at Morrisville State. She is the daughter of Marry and Mark Harmon of Millford.

Soto, senior running back, registered a collegiate best performance in the 37-23 win over Buffalo State College on Saturday. In the contest he recorded nine carries for 138 net yards and three touchdown scores, an average of 15.3 yards per carry.

His two longest runs came in the fourth quarter, one a 60 yard rushing score and another a 66-yard scoring scramble where he broke six tackles to seal the win for the Mustangs. Alone in the fourth quarter Soto collected 126 yards on the ground.

Aside from the running game, he added one reception for a 29-yard gain.

The senior is a graduate of Liberty High and is majoring in human performance and health promotion at Morrisville State. Soto is the son of Luz Soto of Liberty.
