Lakers Drop Road Match to Elmira

OSWEGO, New York – The Oswego State women's tennis team fell to Elmira College 7-2 Tuesday afternoon on the road. With the loss, the Lakers drop to 4-6 on the season, while the Soaring Eagles move to 3-4.

After dropping all three doubles, Oswego found a spark of influence at the bottom of the order in singles. Giovanna Saulle earned a victory at fifth defeating her opponent 6-1, 6-1. Madeline Klatt followed suit, claiming a win at sixth by the same score.

Women's tennis returns to the courts at 4 p.m. on Friday as the team travels north to take on the Cardinals of Plattsburgh.

Women’s Volleyball Falls at Home to Oswego State

KEUKA PARK, New York -- The Keuka College Women's Volleyball lost on Tuesday night to the Oswego State Lakers in three sets at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center at Keuka College.

Jadine Buddingh led the Wolfpack with five kills. Fellow sophomore Katelyn Warren led Keuka in overall points. Her night consisted of three kills, three assisted blocks and a pair of aces for 6.5 total points. Lauren Moelbert added four kills in the match. Kayla Brown led Keuka with eight assists. Kate Burke and Alyssa Rex each had a team-leading seven digs.

Keuka College (3-10, 1-2 NEAC) came out early against Oswego State (14-6, 2-1 SUNYAC). The Wolfpack held a 12-10 lead over the Lakers. Oswego would answer, however, and take 15 of the next 17 points to win the opening set 25-14. Keuka once again had an early lead on the Lakers in the second set. Oswego scored eight straight points to turn a two point Wolfpack lead into a six point Laker advantage. The Wolfpack got the margin back to two points, but Oswego State closed strong for the 25-19 victory in set two. In set three, Oswego State took control of the match. The set was only tied twice, at 1-1, and 3-3. The Lakers would hold leads as many as eight points in the set. Keuka attempted to get back into the match with a late run to make it a four point margin, but Oswego State closed it out for the 25-20 set win, and a 3-0 match victory.

The Wolfpack will return to North Eastern Athletic Conference play this weekend as they play an NEAC Crossover event at Wells College. Keuka will face defending NEAC champions Gallaudet on Friday night. They will then take on hosts Wells College and conference rivals Cazenovia College on Saturday.

Men's Cross Country Places Second at Hilbert

HAMBURG, New York – The Medaille College Men's Cross Country team competed at Hilbert College Tuesday afternoon, finishing in second place behind the host Hawks of Hilbert. The Mavericks collected a total of (41) points, finishing with an average time of (24:33.4).

Sophomore Mark Lancaster (Bergen, NY, Byron-Bergen) finished in third, with a time of (21:12). Fellow sophomore Avery Lewis (Buffalo, NY, McKinley) crossed the finish in a time of (23:57), which was good for seventh place overall. Sophomore Alex Clark (Fillmore, NY, Fillmore Central), senior Jaeyong Shin (Seoul, South Korea, Yeouido), and freshmen Will Grant (Lockport, NY, Lockport) and Malcom Clemons (Buffalo, NY, Maritime) also participated at Hilbert for Medaille.

The men will be back on the course this Friday, when the men and women travel to Lehigh Valley for the Paul Short Run.

Lakers Improve to 14-6 with Win at Keuka

KEUKA, New York – The Oswego State volleyball team cruised past Keuka College 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-20) in a Tuesday-night nonconference road matchup. With the notch in the win column, the Lakers are now 14-6 overall while the Wolfpack falls to 3-10.

In the first set, Oswego trailed by two points nearly half-way through. At 12-10 in favor of the host Wolfpack, Oswego gained control by going on a 15-2 run to capture the opening game 25-14. That run was spurred by a 6-0 spurt, headed by three kills from freshman Ariel Murawski. Sophomore Jessica Long was also pivotal in that span, getting the first point with a kill before holding serve for the next five points, including an ace.

The Lakers did not let up in the middle set, breaking an early 8-8 tie and growing it into a 19-12 advantage. Keuka tried to claw its way back into the set, narrowing the Oswego lead to just three at 20-17, but the Lakers fended off the attempt, scoring five of the final seven points for the victory.

It was business as usual in what proved to be the final set, as Oswego built a positive margin of as many as eight over the Wolfpack before reaching 15 points. Although Keuka was able to cut the deficit in half a few times, it never got closer than four before the Lakers were able to wrap up the match.

As a squad, Oswego hit .250, led by an outstanding .625 clip from senior Kelsey Dillon. Dillon finished with six kills, as did Murawski, Megan Russell and Emma Moriarty, but needed just eight total attacks to do so.

Junior Lauren Edwards collected a team-high 15 assists, while senior Rachael Ruggaber tossed in nine. Ruggaber was also busy in the digs department, accumulating a team-high 16.

Russell added to her tie for the top-spot in kills on the night by claiming the most blocks, assisting on two.  Murawski, senior Kim Cassa and freshman Alison Sullivan each chipped in one block.

Oswego will return home for its next match, another nonconference tilt, this time with Cazenovia College. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday in Max Ziel Gymnasium and is the team's second to last match at home this season.
