Bronxville, NY (Mar. 6, 2019) – The Purchase College
men's volleyball team rallied from two sets down to post a 3-2 victory
over Sarah Lawrence College in the Skyline Conference opener Wednesday
night at Campbell Sports Center.
After dropping the first two sets, 25-17 and 25-11, the Panthers won the
next two, 25-19 and 25-11, before clinching the match with a 15-11
decision in the fifth and deciding set.
Purchase (3-12, 1-0 SKY) senior co-captain Luke Kubisch (Delmar, NY) fueled the victory with a season-best 12 kills to go along with an ace, four blocks and four digs. Junior co-captain Andreo Otiniano (Mamaroneck, NY) dished out a game-high 22 assists.
Freshman right side hitter Jeremiah Huntt (Bronx, NY) notched eight kills, four blocks, seven digs and an ace, while junior middle blocker Thomas Slomka (Orchard Park, NY) led all scorers with an impressive six aces. Slomka also finished with six kills.
For the host Gryphons, Divij Kapoor recorded 14 points, posting eight
kills, five aces and two blocks. Making his season debut, Callan
Moor finished with five kills, nine digs and one block, while Harris
Silcott contributed three kills, three aces and three blocks.
Ithai Diakov finished with three kills and a team-high 12 digs,
while Felix Massey and Humza Obaid added 11 digs apiece. Massey also
recorded 17 assists.
