Game One: LIU Post 10, Bentley 2 (6 Inn.)
Junior Katie Humhej struck out three batters over six innings inside the circle, improving to 5-0 on the season. The right-hander allowed just two unearned runs on the day, scattering five hits. Junior Allie Laird added three hits and junior Abbey Fortin and sophomore Hanna Finkelstein hit home runs for the Pioneers.
The Falcons took a 1-0 lead during the first inning, but the Pioneers responded with two runs in the second thanks to a Bentley error. After the Falcons leveled the scoring at 2-2, the Pioneers scored eight unanswered runs behind a two-run homer by Finkelstein, a solo homer by Fortin, and a two-run single by junior Megan Sneeden, earning the run-rule victory.
Game Two: LIU Post 5, Quincy 0
Senior Hannah Olshevski tossed a one-hitter for her first shutout of the season, leading LIU Post to the victory against Quincy. Senior Julia Seader notched a multi-hit performance, driving home two runs in the process.
During the third inning, Finkelstein gave LIU Post the lead with an RBI-single through the right side of the infield and an inning later Seader drilled a double down the left field line to plate two additional runs.
LIU Post tacked on two insurance runs late behind RBI-singles by Fortin and sophomore Patricia Dun to earn the 5-0 victory, closing out its opening set of games with a 7-3 record.
The Pioneers return to action on Thursday, March 14 when they host local rival Adelphi University in non-conference action at 11:00 a.m.
