New York’s Finest on Display at Red Bull USA Basketball 3X Local Qualifier

- Nineteen Men’s and Women’s Teams Battle at Brooklyn Bridge Park as the Journey Continues to Identify 3x3 Talent  -

Brooklyn, New York (Aug. 29, 2021) — A landslide win on the women’s side and veteran 3x3 experience on the men’s side were the storylines at the Red Bull 3x3 Local Qualifier in Brooklyn, New York on Saturday.

In the women’s bracket, a mix of elite former

college and professional players took center stage with Da Williams beating Game Changers in an energizing three-game series. The Game Changers put up a good fight in the third game, but came up just one point short, with a final score of 11-10.

The winning Da Williams team included Angela Pace, formerly of Morris College, and Emi Guimond, who played at Albion College. Both Pace and Guimond are retired professional players, having played overseas in Germany and Mexico, respectively. The Williams sisters, Aysha and Naya, rounded out the team with all-around skills. They have been playing together and pushing each other in the sport ever since they could walk.

For the Da Williams group, the Red Bull 3X series introduced a newfound love for the 3x3 format.

“Red Bull 3X was the first time I ever really got into 3x3,” said Naya Williams. “Now, we look forward to this event every year!”

On the men’s side, Team Harlem, a dynamic group of players within the professional 3x3 circuit, relied on sharp shooting to dismantle the competition, capping the day with a five-point victory over Team Princeton. The winning team included Red Bull athlete and USA Basketball 3x3 men’s national team player Dominique JonesKadani Britus, formerly of Manhattan College; Marcel Esonwune, who played at York College; and Antoine Morgano of the University of Mississippi.

Team Harlem displayed great teamwork, answering any Princeton make with one of their own. Princeton trailed by a few points throughout the majority of the game, and it seemed like they might take the lead with two minutes to spare, but Harlem ended up on top, winning 21-16.

“I love the fast-paced nature of 3x3 basketball, but what that really means is that you need to stay on your A-game at all times,” said ‘Domo’ Jones. “Either team can get right at any moment, so you better be ready.”

Chris Matthews, aka Lethal Shooter, came by the event to share shooting advice with participants, and New York Red Bulls eMLS player, Mike LaBelle, had fun playing in the tournament.

3x3 is played on a half court with a 10-minute game clock and 12-second shot clock, where the winner is the first team to score 21 points or the team in the lead at the end of the 10-minute regulation.

With 11 qualifiers down and nine to go, the search continues to help identify 3x3 talent. Des Moines and Dallas host the next set of qualifiers on September 4th, with registration still open on the men’s and women’s side.

The winning teams at the Red Bull 3X local qualifiers will have an opportunity of advancing to the Red Bull USA Basketball 3X Regionals in the Fall of 2021, and then to the Red Bull USA Basketball 3X Nationals in 2022, which will be used to select the USA 3x3 Men’s and Women’s National Teams.
