Hagen takes 3rd, Statesmen finish 4th at Elmira Invitational

ELMIRA, N.Y.—The Hobart College golf team, led by junior Harry Hagen, finished tied for fourth place at the Elmira Fall Invitational today. Hagen finished just two shots off the lead, carding his best 18-hole score of the season at the Elmira Country Club.

Hagen made the turn at five over, but recorded eight pars and birdied the par 5 16th to finish with a four-over par 76. SUNY Cobleskill's Wyatt Gorham took home individual medalist honors by firing a 74, one stroke better than the runner-up, Elmira's Jarryd ten Vaanholt.

Junior Alex Grant also finished in the top 10 for the Statesmen, tying for seventh place by shooting an 80 that included a pair of birdies on the front nine. First-year Griffin Thrush also posted a pair of birdies and registered an 86 to tie for 23rd place in the 50 golfer field. Junior Jon Pate and sophomore Mark Pitifer rounded out Hobart's score, tying for 32nd and 36th place, respectively.

SUNY Delhi A took the team title by three strokes over SUNY Delhi B (322-325). Elmira A (330) placed third, one stroke ahead of the Statesmen and SUNY Cobleskill. Oswego State (335), Morrisville State (343), Elmira B (354), Medaille (371), and Keuka (387) rounded out the field.

Hobart will wrap up the fall portion of its schedule on Oct. 10-11, when the Statesmen compete in the Nazareth Invitational at the Mendon Golf Club.
