OSWEGO, New York – The Oswego State women's soccer team increased its win
streak to three on Saturday afternoon, defeating Plattsburgh 2-1 at
Laker Soccer Field. With the victory, the Lakers improve to 2-2 in the
conference and 7-4 overall. The win also put an end to Plattsburgh's
six-game win streak, moving them to 7-3-1 overall (2-1 SUNYAC).
After
allowing an early goal to the Cardinals, the Lakers increased its
offensive pressure and eventually scored at the 10:18 mark. Alexa Restante
intercepted Plattsburgh pass 35 yards out and streaked towards the net
with one defender to beat. The sophomore used her speed to bypass the
defender and calmly curled the ball around the goalie to earn her second
goal of the weekend.
Just 13:31 later, the Lakers were able to find the back of the net again, this time on the foot of Ariah Rosos. Emma Geyer
started the play sending a through ball to Rosos from the top of the
box. The freshmen was able to toe it under the approaching goalie,
scoring the eventual game-winner.
Defense played a key role for
the Lakers as they were able to shut down the Cardinals for the entire
second half. Plattsburgh was able to beat keeper Melissa Siegfried on a shot, but the ball was stopped and booted off the goal line by Chloe Lonergan, maintaining the Lakers one-goal advantage. Siegfried finished the contest with a total of four saves.
Women's soccer continues its play at 3 p.m. on Friday when it hosts the Fredonia Blue Devils for another SUNYAC matchup.
