Oswego State Baseball Plates Eight to Ground Golden Eagles

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The No. 6/8 Oswego State baseball team defeated Brockport 8-2 Friday evening at Lakers Baseball Field. With the win, Oswego goes to 8-2 in the conference (21-3 overall) while simultaneously taking control of the top spot. This win also increases the team's win streak to 13 straight, the longest current streak in Divison III. Brockport falls to 7-3 in the SUNYAC (16-11 overall).

Brockport took the early lead in the second inning, scoring one on back-to-back singles. Oswego didn't wait long to even the score back up though, plating one of its own in the bottom of the inning. Mike Dellicarri got things rolling with as he reached on a fielder's choice. He advanced to third as Zach Kollar, the next batter, singled down the right field line. He was then sent home by Robert Donnelly who reached due to an errant throw on a double play opportunity.

After a scoreless inning, the Lakers were able to take the lead as Jordan Giller was sent home from third on a Dellicarri groundout. Scoring resumed in the bottom of the sixth for Oswego, beginning with Eric Hamilton who reached first on an error. Giller was then able to move E. Hamilton to third on a single and they were both sent home on a John Barnes triple that reached the right field fence. With Barnes at third, the Lakers were able to increase their lead to 5-1 with a Dellicarri sac fly later in the side.

In the seventh, the Lakers added two more insurance runs when Myles Kutscher singled up the middle with the bases loaded to score two. Donnelly ushered in Oswego's final run of the day, sac flying to center and scoring Kollar from third.

Starting on the mound for Oswego was Brian Nolan, who only allowed one earned run in seven innings. He would then be relieved by Andrew Morano who closed out the final two ininings, recording four punch outs.

The baseball team will finish its three-game series with a doubleheader against the Golden Eagles on Saturday. First pitch for that game is slated for 12 p.m.
