City College of New York Men's Tennis Edged By Hunter

The City College of New York men's tennis team was edged 5-4 by Hunter College on Tuesday afternoon in the Bronx, New York. City fell to 5-3, 0-4 CUNYAC while Hunter improved to 5-3, 5-0 CUNYAC.

The Beavers came out strong in doubles play hoping to take the match and give Hunter their first conference loss. Brian Chen and Rubin Lehman took one point for the Beavers when Hunter's double team retired on court three. Pavel Shapturenka and Max Bernstein was able to take the second point with a 8-3 victory on court one. Hunter took the point on court two, but not before CCNY did the damage and took a 2-1 lead.

It would all come down to singles play. Lehman took the point for CCNY by default and City led 3-1. Hunter would quickly take the points on courts one two and four. All three Beavers on those respective courts gave a good fight, but the Hawks went up 4-3. Andrew Chen fell on court five first he took the first set 6-4, but then fell in the next two to give Hunter the point. Reginald Duvalsaint came out strong in the number three position. After falling in the first set 6-4, he came back and took the second set 6-4 then took the third set with the tiebreaker 7-6 (7-3).

City will host Lehman on Friday, April 15 at 3:30 pm at Crotona Park.
